I think it is a perfect subsitute for Lions plus Lions and Irons rhymes and symbolizes the greater feminine appreciation for good poetry. How appropriate is that for the more cultured ladies team?
There is something I think the American readers will miss and possibly Canadians too. The flowers are TUDOR roses! That is a beautiful piece of symbology that proves the appropriateness of the new logo.
To fill in the gaps the War of the Roses (Americans note not the old movie) was between York and Lancaster. The York was white and the Lancaster was red. Hence the name of the war if you haven't got it.
When that misbegotten bastard Henry Tudor seized the crown in 1485 and became Henry VII he married Elizabeth of York. So the symbolism of the Tudor Rose was it combined the Lancaster and York crown.
Despite the rocky start of killing her relos, it was a good devoted marriage and Elizabeth played a core role in giving England Henry VIII.
In this context the Ladies far from miffed from being bared Lions, they in fact quite happy with Irons and will work with the men to achieve world domination of soccer just like Henry VII and Elizabeth overcame antagonism and worked together to extend England's influence.
Beautiful.
As second thought perhaps the Ladies should merge the concepts. Forgo heraldic lions and use iron lions instead.
Modeled on Nelson's column lions but it turns out they are bronze so that won't do. Instead I propose the Iron Lions or (is that Lion Irons?) at the British Museum. What could be more quintessentially British than that?
I think that will sneak the joke without wails of indignant housewives protesting.
Was just perfect how only a fraction of the top of blue was visible while I read the whole question, once again naively drawn into the narrative.
Then scrolled down and saw what the blue part was.
🤣
Then I thought about all those who will probably get mad at reading it and laughed again. Bless your heart, you’ve got a wonderful sense of humour. You’re like the next generation of Victoria Wood, Poppy. When are you getting a TV Comedy show?
Oh my and reading the replies… how do I post the “superman joke flying over his head” meme? We need a tonne of them right now.
Comments get better a day later.
“Is that real?”
Is that real… are you for real. Ok, suddenly I don’t feel as naively daft as usual.
“I don't think half of the people know what they are”
Wait, are you serious? I get that people are unfamiliar with a lot of technology from the past decades but flippin’ irons are now relegated (hah, unintentional pun) to a museum too?
I didn’t even realise until now that it still works for the song…
“Three irons on a shirt”
“Dishes cleaned ‘till gleaming”
“Wales coach Rhian Wilkinson talked up how they wanted to ruin England's party, but the Lionesses were never in danger of leaving the dance early. They hammered Wales 6-1.” Is this why you are so angry, Poppy?
Nah, we lose at everything, usually by quite a lot.
omg! I mean kinda, but it's so funny I don't think anyone cares, plus i mean it's soccer. No one cares about soccer in America anyway

@purplepoppy You said 'football', Poppy, and I was confused for a minute... You meant soccer. Well, you are certainly one of the true winners in Wales... Don't worry about sports they all suck, Poppy. There are those, especially in the U. S. that live their whole fucking life vicariously through some fucking pro team.
Ignore the wise comments, purpleone' "Hammered" - my ass... get a REAL life ragebabe
Not in the slightest. It marks a special time in the history of amateur football achievements.
Truthfully, instead of stars around the team logo for major championships won, it ought to be a cooking pot for each one.
Its clever, and I can see why some think its sexist. I have scars from my lesson on how the iron is a symbol of women's oppression. But no, its a play on words and quite clever
oh... the man are hurt, again
because they just can't bring it home innit'?
I was just watching England's win over Spain in the Euro games this past weekend. Brit girls had lions on their jerseys.
It might be more relevant today if it was the Instagram, TikTok, and Tinder logos...
Is that real? Cuz it’s funny if it’s a joke. But it’s hilarious if it’s serious!
At least their shirts will never have wrinkles ;)
Why can't they just use a lioness? (assuming the men's club uses a male lion logo)
😂😂
Please explain how this logo relates to any football team in the world
The same way 3 lions relate to football on the men's kit
That flag is an insult to all women. Would the idiots in power hang a flag over the field with three limp DICKS pictured on it? I DON'T THINK SO!!!
Very cool. Do you think kids today even know what those things are?
Of course not. It means the team flattens the competition like an iron or it could mean they scorch the competition like a hot iron.
Women don’t iron! That would work better for the Men’s Chinese laundromat team.
I don't think half of the people know what they are
It's that sexist that is an ironic symbol and so it's cool again.
New England has a women's football team? Do all those broads have big boobs?
Never observed it like that!
This logo has nothing to do with football, yes, I think it's kinda sexist.
What's the problem with 3 lions?
funny application, love it. no.
Lmfaooooo
Nobody cares about soccer here
Thanks for the laugh
Funny
Seems silly to me. They can find something better!
Nope 🙅♂️ knit really lol
it will amuse the liberals
LMAO
Who created it?
