Do you see people on the AUTISM spectrum as handicap? What are your thoughts?

I recently was diagnosed with autism and people are telling me that I shouldn’t tell people that I have it because I’ll be seen as handicap. I also realized that no one seems to believe me that I am autistic. It would help a lot to talk to some others with autism.

I mean it for sure is when it comes to a lot on it. Though for some it's a positive. I went to a Special College because I supposedly have Autism, so I've seen enough. It's a handicap due to their repetitive nonsense and inability to be aware of others emotions which covers a lot of them.

Meanwhile if I'm regarded to as Autistic then it's not so. Because I'm aware of others emotions and don't do repetitive nonsense ya won't see me talk about dinosaurs over and over again whenever I can even tho nobody cares, not a stereotype an actual kid in my college lol

The only thing is I'm very blunt but I fail to see how that's an handicap, it's just the logical optimal choice. Which is where they'd suggest I'm autistic but I'd disagree, one being logical don't make them all the sudden autistic however I do agree I'm not Atypical average mid IQ dude.

I was likely "Asperger's" before it was given a name in 1976. After a while, I learned about it and self diagnosed. I still have symptoms, such as impulsively giving someone a lecture about why a shot of whisky is called that, when I segued into it. I try to restrain myself. I was a know it all as a kid because I read a lot. I really knew "it".

You shouldn’t tell people that you have it because it will seem a handicap and excuse for something. Do your best to restrain extraneous impulses.

I have ADHD and have gotten negativity for it (examples “there’s no such thing as ADHD”, “it’s not a real disorder, you’re making excuses” or the one I hate the most “oh so you’re retarded then”), so unfortunately you will have some ignorant people who see it as a handicap (it’s not. I know many autistics who are highly intelligent and very independent). Don’t let those people get to you. Just do what you feel comfortable with. If you feel comfortable talking about your diagnosis, do it. If someone says it’s a handicap or mocks you, that person is ignorant and ignorance is bliss.

Autism is a disability, and it’s a spectrum, meaning you have either low or high needs depending on where you fall. If you have low needs, then there’s nothing to worry about. But unless you fear for your safety, there shouldn’t be any reason for you not to tell someone you’re autistic. If anything, it works to your advantage. Disclosing your disability to your employer makes it easier to get accommodations at your job

There are ups and downs. I tend to be more focused on my interests and I need to find those who are also focused on the same. Or at least that's my own experience, I can only speak for myself (like other people I've met don't seem to feel the same way).

Yes, autism is classifieds as a disability that can interfere severely and leave the indivual in need of full support for the rest of their lives while others can lead a fairly normal life.

And yet autistic people generally have higher IQs, are more open and honest, have a high developed sense of fairness and justice, and are very loyal. These qualities are seen as a disability just because we don’t conform to social norms and don’t do small talk.

People with autism behave slightly oddly. They aren't aware of certain things that regular people are.

For example, I visited your profile a while ago and I already suspected there was something odd about it.

For example your profile description is too defensive for no apparent reason. It's very black and white.

Being aware of this tendency, and letting other people know, will play in your advantage.

There are many forms of autism, from very mild to profound. Mild can hardly be called handicapped, and profound is beyond comprehension
