divorce is really a huge taboo in India and divorced women are frowned upon, no matter the reason. BUT they usually get paid good alimony, for all the years they spent sacrificing their careers and taking care of their in-laws and children.

this is of course not applied to all women, since India is pretty conservative and women are raised that way, to be nurturing and supportive, with the ongoing wave of feminism, they also gotta have jobs. even so, marriage and kids are compulsory deal

I don't know a lot about this topic, but in the USA I guess this is relatively true?

The divorce for women I've DEFINITELY heard. Like the mom ALWAYS getting custody of the kids no matter what. So abusive moms get the kids instead of the caring dads just because they perceive moms as the most important parent.

The marriage for men I don't think I've heard. Though men do usually become the head of the house in marriages. The man is considered more important in society than the woman with the only exception of the woman taking care of the kids.

Though a lot of this is likely to change. A lot of women are pushing to become the head of the house and become on equal standing to men.

I want freedom! That brings the greatest happiness in life. And, to maximize freedom, that means having less constraints in your life - like a spouse and kids and a job. If you have wealth - sufficient that you don't need to work - then you are free to do whatever you want. Now, if you WANT to create constraints in your life like with marriage and kids, so be it. But that's foolish because then you will quickly realize that your freedom has been considerably reduced - both because of the constraints put upon you by having them and because of the money you need to spend to satisfy those constraints.

I am married.
Do I have companionship needs? Not really. I was single until I was 38.5 and should have remained like that. That's not a slight against my wife; it's more that... well, my life would have been different and likely better in many ways had I remained single. That said, being with my wife has positively impacted my life as well having given me many interesting experiences - and problems - that I otherwise would not have had.

We do not have sex; we haven't had sex since November 2008.

My wife had a hysterectomy before we got married. It's one reason I married her - I could have sex without worrying about pregnancy... so no condoms! But, I also did not want kids for a variety of reasons each one being sufficient for me to not have kids. In particular, I had my heart broken in 1992 by a girl I wanted to marry and the ONLY girl that I ever really felt comfortable about having kids with. So, after she dumped me, I knew it would be wrong for me to have kids, so the two women (including my wife) that I dated after that girl who dumped me both had hysterectomies before I met them. It would have been wrong to be a father of a child when I really wanted a different future with a different woman other than the child's mother. But, again, that is only one reason why I chose not to have kids.

There's a reason why my there are so many divorcees bitter with their ex husband's despite they being the ones who ended things, or were cheating or left for another man. Theyve lost all that love and support and what will their kids think of their actions. Theyve all sorts of devices and justifications for justifying their actions. I know quite a few of these women.
