No though I do think so. I do think vetreans upon leaving should be allowed to receive a military surplus weapon, maybe with the receiver say on an m4 or m16 swapped out or made legal or say an old M9 beretta. Maybe some of the old mosseberg or remington shotguns. The US military has warehouses full of old weapons that will never be used again. All the more relevant because even though you may be discharged from the military you may actually be called up again within 5 years or more if there's an emergency, a lot of people dont realise that when they are talking about the draft but before any draft theyd recall US military vetreans first. 1 million trained and experienced vetreans have left the military in the last 5 years, most are still fit to serve. This is what happened in the Korean war with WW2 military vetreans being recalled, handed a rifle to fight in Korea.

I also think military personel being deployed should be allowed to purchase their own side arm of choice. I know guys that would have gladly traded their m9 bereta for a glock.

The whole bollocks gun lovers use to justify their paranoia about "government oversight" when it's really just fear of "others" not like them that's been allowed to balloon out of control thanks to the lax nature of regulating that mythical militia that the second amendment is meant to allow civilians to hold firearms. Of course there are Service Members and Veterans who're capable of commiting homicide or other violent crime, but their rates are significantly lower than for civilians; I never suggested they were perfectly free from crime, you stooge. If you spend enough time searching, you'll also find murderous ten-year-olds, overweight vegans, 7 foot tall women, and 4 foot tall men, but they don't represent the average within their specific groups or demographics.

Military Veterans and Active-Duty personnel have markedly lower per-capita homicide rates than similar aged civilians. The gap is large enough that even when the broad “civilian” category is not age-adjusted, the veteran and active-duty service member population is still relatively much safer.

The Department Of Defense reports approximately 0.8–1.2 homicides per 100,000 active-duty service members each year. This is from 'Population Representation in the Military Services' and annual Crime Reports.

The largest single study from the DOJ and Bureau of Justice Statistics examined 57,000 homicide offenders whose prior military status was known from 1980 to 2016. Veteran offenders accounted for 9.4% of all offenders but represented about 16% of the adult male population at the time; this yielded an age-and-sex-adjusted rate of about 3.5–4.5 per 100,000.
CDC NVDRS data for 35 states from 2015 to 2020 displayed a veteran homicide rate of 4.1 per 100,000 vs. 7.8 for non-veteran adult males.

In comparison to civilians, CDC homicide death rates for the general civilian population (all ages, both sexes) run 5–6 per 100,000. Limiting to civilian males 18-44, this pushes the rate to 12-14 per 100,000.

So, to summarize the homicide rates:
For Active-duty personnel, it's 1 per 100,000
For Veterans, it's 4 per 100,000.
And for Civilians, it's 12-14 per 100,000.

Sure, there are plenty of veterans who suffer from PTSD and substance abuse, which elevates violent crime risk, but the absolute numbers still remain very small. Furthermore, most veteran homicide convictions involve interpersonal disputes, not combat-triggered rampages. Something else to note is that female veterans have even lower homicide rates than male veterans.
