Do you view yourself as lucky or privileged?

I think I'm lucky I came to Canada at age 4 because I am fluent in English while other people struggle with language barriers which affects their ability to feel included and seen in the social world, and in the professional world.

I also think I'm lucky I live in Canada where you can buy a dozen eggs for $10.00 cause other people are poor and struggle with protein intake due to poverty.

I also think I am lucky I have so many churches, community centres, classmates and social networking groups where I can meet kind and respectful people, because some people do not have good social options for making friends.

I am lucky I am able bodied because I can always work at McDonalds if my current career fails and I have to do minimum wage to buy eggs.

In some ways? Yes. I grew up with parents that stayed married, I'm an American citizen, I love my career, and I'm the healthiest I've ever been in my life.

In other ways? Not so much. I pulled the genetic short straw, was born with 3 rare diseases, I didn't have a particularly good childhood (with the scars to prove it), and I've often had to stand alone.

Everyone has their own advantages and struggles.

While it is said that privilege is invisible to those with it, it is self-evident that I am privileged. I was born, raised and lived in a developed (if you could call it that) country where my upbringing never saw me worrying about my next meal. I was able to get a degree in the STEM field and earn an above average wage. I may not be a 1% elite earner with huge generational wealth but I am privileged nonetheless.

I'm lucky to live in an area most people in the UK think is "a nice place to come for a holiday" I make a decent living, have plenty of spare time and friends. I can wander alone at night and not feel threatened and in perfect health.

I didn't do anything to deserve this, I was just lucky enough to be born in a nice area into a family that wasn't struggling. I'm well aware there's millions of good decent people who through no fault of their own are having a hard time, so yes I consider myself privileged.

I've never considered myself privileged. I have been fortunate to be in the right place at the right time several times, especially in my career. Is that lucky or is it because I made good decisions that put myself in those positions?

I view myself as being blessed and im great full for every that has happen and the knowledge i have gained and experienced

Being privileged is not really that important to me.
