There seems to be a school shootings just about every week where a bunch of kids die. Charlie Kirk was murdered on September 10th by a sniper from a rooftop.  On June 14, 2025, Minnesota state representative Melissa Hortman was assassinated in a shooting at her home in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, United States. Hortman, the leader of the state House Democratic caucus, was killed alongside her husband, Mark. Earlier that morning, state senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, were shot in their home in nearby Champlin and hospitalized. Police responding to the attack on the Hoffmans checked on the Hortmans' home, where a man fired at them. The shooter escaped, sparking the most extensive manhunt in Minnesota history. The authorities identified 57-year-old Vance Luther Boelter as a suspect and captured him on the evening of June 15 in Green Isle, Minnesota. He was federally charged with murder, stalking, and firearms offenses.  Turning Point USA CEO and co-founder Charlie Kirk said of gun deaths on April 5, 2023, "I think it's worth it. I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights." Is it time for gun control in the United States?

we will get there eventually as our society continues to devolve, but it's a tough sell in usa and doubt it happens right now. Another big introduction issue is ability to print guns on 3D machines. It's really hard to control this with the technology or laws. you'd have to restrict all of that. If people can ship drugs in, they can ship guns in... especially when they are illegal... it goes black market. Don't see it working... this isn't China! As well, the property rights issue slides as can no longer defend self and we become like France where everyone builds a fence around their house to keep people out. blech to that too.

This shooting brings back memries of one of the first movies I saw s a kid was like "WTH?". Issue been going on long time. The real problem isn't the gun, but is...________. The gun makes it easy, you are right about htat. Maybe go back to single shot rifles.. but again, how to control it? Hard.

Bottom line, you really got two good options... find Jesus so you go to heaven when killed or die, or move to Europe or Asia. Crazy people are around, can get guns, and we are crazier than ever given what we eat and think. My whole family used guns... never shot anyone during peace times. They were trained by their parents, beaten with paddles and belts on what is right and wrong. We've got a bumper crop of people that are poorly trained, more emotionally sensitive and selfish as he... without any semblance of religious guidance to control their impulses. So it's a matter of time til the next time.

About the 2nd Amendment "enthusiasts" like Charlie Kirk, Shakespeare had a good comment:

And, maybe Howard Fineman said it best. He was referring to Lee Atwater, a vile human who ran the 1988 Presidential election GOP campaign. Atwater was so vile that, after the election, God promptly took him out with brain cancer. Atwater had just turned 40 when he died in March 1991. Well, Charlie Kirk's path was heading towards Atwater's. Maybe God learned his lesson from Atwater and took out Charlie before he got to Atwater level. After all, if you believe in God, isn't this all part of "God's Plan"? Anyway, for the documentary "Boogie Man: The Lee Atwater Story". Fineman said at the very end:

To me, the Lee Atwater story is a great story because of its human dimension, not because of politics. It's a story of American yearning and striving to be accepted, to be powerful, to be great, and the personal risks of doing that. Life gets even with you in the end.

That's what happened to Charlie: Life gets even with you in the end.

He died how he lived... Inciting hate and finding gun deaths acceptable. And he has created his killer with his words and deads and apparently became an "acceptable death".

Nope. Why should my rights, my ability to defend myself and property and my loved ones, and my ability to feed myself, be taken away because other people are assholes?

Should your right to free speech be taken away because someone else instigated riots or made terroristic threats? No.

Should your right to your religion be taken away because religious extremists have murdered people in the name of religion? No.

Should your right to assemble be taken away because others turned it into riots? No.

Should your right to associate with whom you choose be taken away because others formed groups like the KKK and terrorized minorities? No.

Just because other people do fucked up shit, doesn't mean everyone else needs to be put at risk or have their rights taken away.

So, I would suggest rational gun control which is actually “shooter control”.

We know the majority of all shootings except 3(Trans or Biological Female) have been white males under the age of 21.

I propose

1) Mental Health Evaluation

2) Waiting Period With Background Checks

3) Under 21 Can’t Access Firearm or Gun

4) If you are on a No Fly List or FBI Watchlist or lack US Identification or previous history of violence you can’t have a gun for a specific length of time

5) If the person is suicidal they can’t have a gun

6) A gun safety test to be qualified to have a gun, like DMVs with Learners Permit and a license to renew as a responsible gun owner

That is all. We stopped airplanes being utilized for terrorism after 9/11 so, we can fix this too together from both sides working together.

So, only allow criminals to have them? The places in the USA with the strictest gun control laws have the highest amount of violent crimes involving guns.

Also, someone took a video showing the shooter beforehand laying on a rooftop and saw him run to that location, yet said nothing until after it was too late again. People need to inform police immediately when something suspicious like that happens, but they don't. People these days are so concerned with making videos that they take no action when necessary.

If all the liberals were eliminated, there would be very little problems with crime or violence.

The 2nd Anendment was added to the Constitution as a reaction to what British soldiers dud during the Amerucsn Revolution, seizing colonists' guns. The amendment says that this new government will not fo that. Over time, though, the meaning of the amendment has been expanded to mean that anyone can have any kind if weapon, and as many weapons, as they want, which far exceeds the original intent.

Perhaps it's time we took a step back toward the amendment's original meaning, and limit the types and numbers of weapons a person can have, but never totally taking away their right to own a weapon.

Yes we do and we should strive to make our gun control system similar to that of the Japanese model. Unfortunately, it is FAR too late in the gun game for America to make any real, radical changes. For one, there are simply already too many extremely dangerous types of guns owned by the citizens of the US (automatic rifles, semiautomatic assult guns, bazookas, long distance scoped rifles, army tank cannons, etc). The result of trying to take these away from people would not be pretty and allowing one person to own an MR16 while telling another they may not own the same would be grossly unfair... and that's just the tip of that touchy iceberg!

Most people by now know that Washington State has some of the most strict gun control laws in the country. These began earlier than 2023. Here is an official statistic from those laws. The gun death rate increased by 5% from 2022 to 2023, with a doubling (128% increase) from 2014 to 2023.
