When I go to work today will the flag be at half mast?

I work at a state college in a very democrat state. President Trump ordered flags in government buildings to fly at half staff until Sunday.

I wonder if the flag on campus will be at half staff?

I wonder what they are going to do to me when I put it at half staff myself?

The flags were at half mast. However I do not know if they were at half mast because it was 9/11 or if it was because Charlie 'Kirk was killed.

Trump is a total moron for ordering the flags at half mast for some dude that nobody heard of. Half mast should be reserved for only a small fraction of people. Thousands of people who are far more important than that guy never had the flags at half mast.

If this kind of thing is abused, it not longer has any meaning. Doing it for this guy is an insult to the people who deserve it, and downright disrespectful to them.

I'm surprised that so many places are doing it considering they are not required to unless they are federal - even then I don't know if there is actually a law about it.

Charlie Kirk is not only being mourned in America but his death has been a big story in Europe, Australia and other foreign countries. His funeral will be attended by The President and Vice President and many other political leaders. He was not a nobody

I’m in a blue state and a blue town and our flag was at half mass.


On the morning of 9/11 we had a 9/11 ceremony and we were not sure what to do…. The ceremony requires a 8:46am when the first plane hit to ring a bell 5 times and lower the flag to half mast but the flag was already at half mast. So at 8:30am we raised it so we can lower it. No one was certain of the proper procedure of lowering an already lowered flag.

@TrueConfection The college used to have a very somber ceremony for 9/11. One of our maintenance guys made a bell out of an old welding tank and the college president would ring the bell for all the people killed. Local politicians would show up and there were always plenty of students that would be there.
Not a mention of it this year. I think that they do not want to offend the Muslin community.

My youngest went to public high school and their idea of teaching critical thinking was to tell the students that 9/11 was make believe.

@TrueConfection. My kids graduated high school at the very end of being able to get a decent education. When my youngest graduated 10 or 12 years ago it was going to hell. School choice is the way to go. Public schools and the teachers union should not have a monopoly on education.

They don't. I went to private schools from Kindergarten until I graduated from college (my college was a private school too). I got an education and none if my teachers were of a union nor were the schools public.

@Twalli Yes, you were fortunate to have rich parents. Most people cannot afford 40-50 K to send thier kids to a private high school. Where I live school districts spend 20-30 K per student. If parents could get that money that is actually their money since they pay taxes, many would send their kids to a private school. And if public schools did not have a monopoly they would have to produce a better product.

Fortunately I did not have to do it but I was prepared. When I walked into the quad it looked at first that there were no flag at all. There was no wind and it was sort of hiding behind the flag pole.

The last political discussion we had was also not that confrontational, probably since we were both younger.
