I was in bed at home sick and was watching TV and it was breaking news.
I saw the very first raw, unedited footage that showed people jumping out of the building from way high up near the top.
I remember seeing this one man dressed in a suit standing on the ledge, crossed his hands over his chest and just leaned forward and just kept going to the sidewalk to his death.
Lots of that was happening but then they edited it and stopped showing the people jumping off the building to their death.
Then the other plane hit the other building and that's when people realized that it was a terrorist attack.

I was in my office at work, a typical morning on Tuesday 11-Sep-2001. Ironically, none of us knew anything was happening... until, around 9am, a colleague in Belgium called me and told me about the attack on the WTC. I immediately brought up the news on my computer to watch what was happening told everyone in the office what was happening. No more work got done that morning as we watched the events happen.

Just across our parking lot was a local mosque, and police quickly surrounded it, fearing possible retaliation for the 9/11 attacks, once it was revealed that the attackers were Muslim. Around noon, we were all told to go home, management fearing something might happen at the mosque.

Our office stayed closed for the rest of the week (we were all paid anyway), and reopened the following Monday. I recall being at home and not hearing any planes, as they were all grounded. My house was in the approach to the local airport, and planes flying overhead was typical.

I was at work talking to a client. He said "Why are you calling me? Don't you watch news? Turn on your TV!" And hung-up the phone. We gathered around the TV in the lunchroom to watch an endless loop of the 2 planes hitting the towers.

Suddenly, it felt like I was in a dream or watching a bad movie. Colleagues cried or got sick. Our boss came onto the floor and told everyone to go home. As I commuted, everyone was somber and silent, like automatons. In an instant, the world changed forever! Ill NEVER forget it!

I was living in Anchorage AK. With my ( now x) wife and 2 daughters ( 6&8) . We had just had cable TV installed the day before, and I heard the tv in the living room on, I got up and went to make coffee and sit with my girls for a bit. When id said good morning I noticed they were both looking at the tv with more then usual interest. I looked to see what they were watching, the scene I saw, tower 1 had already been hit , and I stopped trying to remember which terrorist movie it was. At that. moment I saw the inbound aircraft, turn towards the 2nd tower and raised it wasn't a movie , I sat with my girls for the next hour or so, and tried to answer their questions and calm their fears, that was one of the few times I really felt impotent as a father, how do you explain that sort of hatred , to girls that have no comprehension of such lunacy.

I turned on the news as the second aircraft hit. I thought I'd switched on a movie by accident. Then I realised I was on the right channel.

I channel hopped for the next few minutes and watched in horror as the towers fell.

A week before a good friend had been in the North Tower because his meeting had needed to be advanced. It saved his life.

I was working for a large tech company as a lab engineer. We had a TV on a cart that we used to watch training videos. I got a coax connector and made an antenna out of some copper wire and set the TV up in the lab so we could watch.
Lehman Bros was our biggest customer at the time and we sent some of out engineers down to Jersey City with a pile of equipment I put togather and set up a temporary headquartes across the river.

Going to my mother's place to help my sister, her caregiver, with Mom. I saw the first pane hit the Twin Towers just before leaving my place, and when arriving at Mom's, Karen, whose birthday was the next day and would have been 69 today, Sept.12 (I lost her to colon cancer Aug.11,2018 at age 61) greeted me at the door with "Did you see the plane hit the Twin Tower," a couple on minutes before the second hit. I was 48 then, am 72 today, so it was literally a lifetime and a half ago. Even more poignant, my New Jerseyan 20-year-old great-niece and her 21-year-old brother wouldn't be born until Feb.5, 2004 (Christian, my youngest great-nephew)) and Feb.4,2005 (Madison, my great-niece.)

I was in Queens doing deliveries to lumberyards and I was able to see that big black smoke in the sky over the Manhattan skyline just like in the picture but not as close but that is definitely near the Brooklyn side because I remember the smoke going that direction south
