If an atty WAS a public defender or criminal defense atty & THEN runs for office, SHOULD the clients they represented be used against them in ads?

I understand some low IQ, smooth brained people will fall for that type of shit but tbh it's long term counterproductive, below the belt & shady.

The canons of ethics REQUIRE a "zealous defense" so for that attorney to do less or otherwise for fear of long term career consequences is dangerous OR it may circumscribe an entire occupation from pursuing public office.

I don't know when I see campaign ads that attack people who were defense attorneys / public defenders early in their career it really pisses me off.

No. A defense attorney's duty to provide a zealous defense is a professional one, not a personal one. It is a requirement of their role to defend the client's rights, not to pass judgment on their guilt or innocence. To attack someone for fulfilling their professional duty is a cynical and unfair tactic that misunderstands the very nature of the legal profession and is therefore below the belt.

My question is why can't the aspiring politician spin that as an easy win.

I am of the people and I will govern for the people. The state has limitless power and we the united state of America have tempered this nessesity for the people by the people.

My assumption is going to school for law you take things for granted as common sense. There needs a level of passion for this. Zealot means something not just a check box.
