That's the mindset of a civilization that has forgotten its own purpose. It's a truth of the 19th century, a product of a way of thinking that saw humanity as a machine that needed to be fixed. It's a necessary, but temporary, 'earthly' phase. The point of that phase was to get us to a point where we could start building a society based on freedom, not compulsion. Holding onto that mindset now is like a grown man insisting on being treated like a child. The focus should be on creating a healthy society, not just on punishing the sick ones. It's a dead-end view that keeps humanity from evolving.
