3 moBest part is it wasn’t even a Charlie Kirk comment, but a TRUMP comment, ABOUT he and the right’s abuse of his death for political gain.
He also just pointed out the obvious, of how Trump sloughed off some reporter’s question about how he was after “his friend” Kirk’s death, and he’s just like “Good! And look over here, this where we’re going to start building the ballroom…” Kimmel said “That’s not how an adult mourns his friend; that’s how a four year old mourns a goldfish”, and “Trump has entered the Fourth Stage Of Grief: Construction.”
At NO point did Kimmel mock Kirk himself. In fact, he had already made the same statement that most celebrities and politicians, even on the left, had made.
Here was Kimmel’s tweet the day of the murder….
“Instead of the angry finger-pointing, can we just for one day agree that it is horrible and monstrous to shoot another human? On behalf of my family, we send love to the Kirks and to all the children, parents and innocents who fall victim to senseless gun violence.”
Once again, COMPLETELY manufactured outrage by Trump and conservatives. They are going to make a MEAL out of this whole Kirk thing, FOREVER, mark my words.

Like Rosanne, exactly. But even regular people. You see stories about people getting fired for something legal that isn't work related.
Some teacher got fired for having an OnlyFans. The sad part is, someone had go through a lot of trouble to find that, so they snitched on her, but were looking at her page.
One guy on "Survivor" outed a transgender contestant during an episode and got fired from his job. Like it's a fucking TV show!
Those are the two I can remember off the top of my head, but there have been many. Even people getting suspended/expelled from school for posting something or doing something that isn't school related.

2 moif your question is truly genuine curiosity i will try to answer it genuinely. Obviously i can't (and don't) speak for everyone, but the commonality of thought amongst conservatives is this. from their perspective the cancellations that happen to the vast majority of people are due to simply stating widely accepted facts. such as that gender refers to sex, men cannot be women, babies should not be murdered, etc etc.
Or it will be over impersonal, untargeted jokes. like a dark humor joke about race or sex or something of that nature.
What the cancellations are almost never about is someone telling outright lies and/or mocking, celebrating, or joking about a specific person. particularly someone who was just publicly assassinated in front of his wife and children as well as someone who's death has revealed thousands upon thousands of other people both celebrating their death while simultaneously calling for more violence.
To conservatives, THAT is the difference and the reason why they do not see Kimmel's cancellation as being in opposition to their stated ideals of free speech.

3 moJimmy Kimmel has freedom of speech, he just doesn't have a TV show. Generally when you support terrorism and celebrate killings by terrorists, corporations will fire you. One, you are now a security liability to the corporation. If you are a violent maniac that supports terrorism and assinations, who's to say you won't go postal and shoot up the office? They're generally going to send security to escort you out of the building before they tell you that you are fired. Two, there are laws concerning incitement to murder and domestic terrorism. As a result depending on what was said he could have broken said laws, which could one lead to his arrest, and two threaten the broadcasting license of his organization. Either way the organization he worked for will be investigated, which means their team of attorneys are going to advise his boss to take him off the air immediately to protect their organization from any further harm.

What exactly did Kimmel say that amounted to "support terrorism (or) celebrate killings by terrorists"? Nobody is showing any specific clip or quote that amounts to terrorism that I've seen. Perhaps we need to go look up the definition of terrorist/terrorism?
How is Kimmel any more 'terrorist-y' than the countless calls for violence and death from the right wing media commentators?
It seems that bias is fueling both sides to me, a lot of people are looking to escalate CK's murder for no good reason. - 3 mo
@BeenThereLovedIt What's so hard to understand? The definition for Domestic Terrorism which is recognized by the FBI is as follows:
Domestic Terrorism: Violent, criminal acts committed by individuals and/or groups to further ideological goals stemming from domestic influences, such as those of a political, religious, social, racial, or environmental nature.
The assassination of Charlie Kirk targeted an American civilian influencer on a college campus who debated political, religious, and social issues at public events utilizing his freedom of speech. His assassin murdered (a violent criminal act) Charlie Kirk leaving behind symbolism of ANTIFA and LGBTQ+ on the shell casing to further ideological goals and domestically influence the American public. Those associated with the assassins movement then vocally celebrate the death of Charlie Kirk and called for more killings and intimidation of civilians to influence and suppress political, religious, and social debate in America. What the Democrats are tied up in fits the definition of domestic terrorism like a glove. So leveraging an influential platform to support a domestic terrorism movement puts you right in the cross hairs for federal investigators. - 2 mo

HERE IS WHAT TRIGGERED HIS FIRING:
🗣️ **Kimmel’s Monologue**: On the September 15 episode, Kimmel criticized right-wing commentators for allegedly trying to distance the shooter, Tyler Robinson, from the MAGA movement. He said:
> “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them…”
This is a blatant lie. He is essentially saying that the killer was a Trump supporter doing this for political points.
By sating this he is pouring gas on an already messed up situation and adding confusion. Anyone who supports this is anti-American or just straight up naïve

3 moMany of them are hypocrites. Others recognize that freedom of speech does not protect you from the consequences of your speech. Particularly since the heavily leftist mainstream and social media has previously punished offensive speech coming from the right, failing to punish that coming from the left leaves them in an actionable position under law. Since we have precedents for such lawsuits, they’re rightfully covering their butts.
To my knowledge, Kimmel’s show is still fairly profitable, and the announcement was that the show was suspended indefinitely, not canceled. If Kimmel has the gumption to apologize or redress his comments after the heat dies down, i’m certain he’ll get his show back.
In the meantime, he and every other talking head should definitely take some time to reconsider what they’re feeding into the zeitgeist and how it actually affects other people.20 Reply 5.3K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. No problem:
Today I was filling my japanese-made electric-vehicule with Hydro-Québec's cheap and relatively clean electricity. Then I checked both my checking and savings account and monthly interests were added to the balance, calculated from the amount that I have in both. Then I went to my Canadian-made house in a nice neighborhood worth $5 million now because I bought it cheap ($200,000) back in 1994, when I was still in elementary school. My three wives and our 17 kids have all graduated from McGill University with honors: they're all working at NASA now, but they'll come back here soon, because... you know... it's not like they haven't got better options than to work in your shithole country. Did I tell you that I'm tenured professor in a good University in a conservative city where things are a mess because of conservatism? Yesterday, they sent an email to every student and faculty member offering psychological support for Charlier Kirk's death. It made me really sad and feeling angry that my liberal opinions weren't respected. I'm the most important man on campus! Why didn't they acknowledge my feelings? That's what happened to Jimmy Kimmel and driving in my great EV, running on cheap electricty, I saw 10,000 vigils in his honour everywhere I went: it's clear that people will talk about him for millenias to come. Also, Stalin is the greatest prime minister of Russia ever. He did it all: inflation was way down, crime didn't happen, illegal opinion holders were deported to Siberia, Ayn Rand was mad at him for being so right and her being so wrong. He was the greatest hero of the United Soviet Unions of Russia and he started the single most important political movement since antiquity. He'll be remembered for his greatness even after the earth is swallowed by the sun in billions of year.
That's what happened to Kimmel. - 3 mo

Operative word: "Trying". Even if true, the Biden administration did not threaten to cost businesses millions or billions if they didn't get rid of him, it tried to persuade companies not to knowingly disseminate misinformation counter to the science. Trump's did threaten licences and mergers simply to cancel someone who said true things about him.

Nobody in power is for freedom of speech, it's always those without the power because they're the ones getting censored. - 2 mo
That's not what happened pretending the censorship on people was just them asking a question is funny. And here's a newsflash for you Trump got banned from Twitter but I'm sure you'll find some backwards reason that didn't happen for him literally just saying things.
If you really think those in power want you to speak your mind you are cooked and need to do some reading, may I suggest 1984. - 2 mo
"Trump got banned from Twitter" by Twitter, and just after he'd used Twitter to encourage an attack on the Capitol. That sort of thing used to be against the terms of service.
"If you really think those in power want you to speak your mind..."
That's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that only Trump and Republicans, after decades of demanding freedom to defame, to insult, to inflame, are now using the power of government to shut down people for simply telling the truth about them. Democrats did not do that.
I'm sure Elon does censors people, so did Kirk. The red flag was flying when Twitter etc. could automatically detect and silence Islamist terror propaganda but not right-wing terror - because it was catching too many Republican lawmakers.
Do you want child porn and Islamist terror propaganda on Twitter?
files.mastodon.online/.../4181e22a8f2d9fec.jpeg - 2 mo
No trump didn't all he did was say something. Unless you have proof he led them directly and went with them I don't buy into any idea that what he said wasn't freedom of speech.
The fact you think the left when in power don't do this is absurdly funny, really shows both sides are cults no wonder I'm becoming more Independent by day with this thinking, can't admit to their side doing anything wrong at all pulling the wool over their eyes.
Also thinking Trump saying something on Twitter is equal to child porn as an equal argument proves you've really gone off the deep end lmao.
Oh well keep enjoying your dangerous idea that the left would never cancel or censor people which is factually untrue and now they're whining because their on the end of the stick this time. Any reasonable person can see both sides do it, just matters who's in power. - 2 mo
OK, so you're going to ignore obvious facts, and lie about what I'm saying now.
"led them directly and went with them"? He literally said he was going there. Maybe he shouldn't have avoided his trial and shown that he had absolutely nothing to do with the people trying to keep him in office after he lost the election.
"the left would never cancel or censor people"
Never said never. Never said "the left". Never talked about the future.
I said: Democrats did not use the power of the government to force companies to censor people. - 2 mo
Bidens administration put pressure onto YouTube and Meta to take down posts about Covid, and YouTube censored even the word and making it demontizted.
Which of course they did. Companies do not want to enforce such issues until the government tells them so no way would've they done this otherwise. - 2 mo
Yes. Shockingly the govt has a responsibility to prevent misinformation that can harm citizens.
- 2 mo
Nope it's not the governments job to censor beliefs. So unless an action like killing someone for such belief happens people can believe what they want and say that.
If the government wants to say here's the information to contrary that belief that's okay, but censoring isn't.
Otherwise anyone could argue any belief is harmful therefore we have to thought police... oh that reminds me of a book...
