No, it should not be banned as there are some cases where it is necessary to save the life of the pregnant woman.

"Incompatible with religion"
Who says everyone has to have a religion? Who says everyone must be as you are and believe what you believe and do as you do? Grow up and learn that people can have different opinions about God or not believe at all. I am agnostic. Their is no proof of a God in the manly image it is depicted as. There may be something mystical in the world so I'm not dismissing completely. But if you study history you can see CLEAR motivations of MEN in creating a fictional God for their own purposes. As a means of control of people. And an excuse for war. A way to dehumanise "enermies" who don't believe. Anyways I won't go on. Do some research.
Now abortion is a topic that is going to be tough to agree upon regardless of religious stance. Because there is a lot of situations and contexts surrounding it that is bigger than just the argument of life and death. I'm sure I'm wasting my breath on someone closeminded tho. But a person seriously considering this question to make a reasoned and logical decision would have to consider when does life begin? Conception? Or when egg and sperm combo grows a brain/stem cell/heart? And if said life was created accidently (through rape ) or stupidly (no contraception)? What if the continued growth of the fetus endangers the mothers life? Who's life is more important to preserve? And what if the fetus is proven to have genetic issues that will deform and create a horrible existence for the "life" if allowed to be born? Isn't it kinda to end it before it even knows? And what about if we lived in a world where babies are forced to be born to parents that didn't want them? Do you care more that a life is born than its quality of life once born? Tell me: if two heroine addicts have a child and they raise it beaten and abused and starved and it dirty disgusting decisions are you happy? Cos at least it was born? And where is God now in this situation? Cos it happens. Why do some people care SO much about "life" with no morality about the wellbeing of that life? So many of us are born and want to die. If every single life born was promised a paradise existence on Earth than so be it. But there are too many people and horrible people and wars and crimes and poverty.
It's extremely small minded to focus only on the procedure of abortion and not look at the bigger picture.
And after all that.. it takes a man and woman to have sex and create a baby. But it's men who for the majority do not take creating life seriously. Women get blamed for getting pregnant. Get told they should have "shut their legs" but why not the man "keep it in his pants"? Why do men not make sure they are in a relationship with a woman before allowing sex? To have a blanket law about abortion you would have to have a blanket law about no sex outside of marriage too. And then to make that one stick... death penalty for disobeying. Oh oops.. that would wipe out the human race within ten years.

- 8 mo
@DARKCLOUD1945X did I reply to you here? I replied to the asker who is clearly bringing religion into the argument by stating how abortion is "incompatible with religion".
If u don't like my answer don't read it. Simple.
5.9K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Definitely not.
I have a problem with women who engage in serial abortion as a means of birth control.
But I have zero problem with chemical abortion that can be performed up to 10 weeks after a woman's last period. I don't even have a problem with medical abortion within the first trimester when the fetus has not developed a nervous system that can experience pain or consciousness.
Abortions not be limited to cases of rape. Accidents can happen. A woman or teen who finds herself pregnant and is in a situation where having a baby would negatively effect the rest of her life should have the option of abortion.
I have known a few women who got pregnant in their early teens by their first boyfriends. Those girls had been young and naive. But after learning their lessons, they started taking the pill so as to never have to get another abortion. Those girls grew up to eventually get married and have children. Fortunately, they were not forced to become single teen mothers.
Deciding to abort is a heart wrenching decision for most women who become accidentally pregnant. But abortion is sometimes the best option. And it should be solely the woman's decision.
I applaud sexually active women, but they should use contraception, not abortion. For example, all my girlfriends were on the pill and we never had a pregnancy scare even though I estimate that I've came inside women well over 5000 times.
Lastly I'll say that people should not be controlled by the religious beliefs of others.12 ReplyItās essentially legal murder.
At the very least the terminology should be changed.
a single human walking amongst us has not existed without conception therefore all logic dictates that life begins at conception. Itās foolish to say otherwise. And using soft terms like āAbortionā are what people use to justify the act of terminating the life inside the womb.
Many people also misuse terms such as āFetusā thinking it means something akin to ālifelessā when in fact fetus means āoffspringā and offspring is another term for baby/child to a parent or āprogenitorā
The lack of education is primarily why so many people believe that itās a ājustifiableā act.
When common sense and logic are used itās undeniable that it is life inside the womb. If you cut off oxygen will it die? Yes. If you stop feeding it will it die. Yes. If you continue to supply it with nutrients will it continue to live. Yes. All signs of ways that if you would treat an adult under the same conditions that they would live or die can be applied to babe in the womb. To say that the babe in the womb is not alive is to say that the adult outside the womb is not alive as they have the same base needs for retaining and maintaining that life.
Life begins at conception. Any person that attempts to point at another human and say that they exist without it is just a bad liar. Logic dictates this, and logic allows us to evaluate and determine the truth.

Murder is a definitional point based on a killing being illegal and premeditated. Abortion is a legal killing, yes, but calling it legal murder would be calling it a legal illegal killing. That's quite the oxymoron.
8 moConsidering the alarming rate at which humanity is proliferating, and on top forcing the birth of unwanted children, seems to me particularly stupid. There are already so many unhappy kids and people, which can only lead to hate and violence in a society. If you have doubts, ask a psy.
Although for some to me mysterious reasons a big social taboo, in my opinion abortion is no one else's business than the concerned woman, her doctor, and maybe her confessor. Really no offence meant !
Sincerely religious people have still the capacity, according circumstances and particular situations, to make the best choice according their consciousness and beliefs. No one should emit any judgment too quickly.
20 Reply717 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. No, I don't agree. Although I would never abort but I still support those who opt for abortion like in cases like where a woman got raped or in cases where she finds out she has a complication and if she still choose to go ahead with the pregnancy and childbirth, there's a high risk that she might not survive. So, I don't think it should be banned but I also think people should at least think twice before sleeping with someone if they both aren't ready to bring a child.

Early abortions are before the fetus could possibly be considered a person and late ones are end-of-life decisions by the obvious next of kin due to serious health problems and to reduce suffering.
All you're advocating is to increase suffering in the world.

@msc545 No, it's not "sloppy logic", it's recognition of uncertainty.
You will not die if you fall a millimeter onto concrete without a parachute, you will die if you fall a hundred meters. The exact height where someone will die is somewhere in between. There is no precise height, like 14.752m above which you will die and below which you will not.
People have characteristics that a single cell does not. A person is not simply a strand of DNA. - 8 mo
No, it is a concept that you use for your own agenda. You have decided what does and does not constitute a "person" to meet your own desire to allow the murder of unborn children.
We need to stop this. We have had this discussion many times before. I will never convince you that murder is wrong, and you will never convince me that it is right.
Let's give it a rest.
5.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. No. In fact, it should be legalized throughout the world.
I don't like abortion, but it is none of my business what a woman does with her life. If it is a sin, then that's between her and God. We can let God deal with it. The rest of us have no business interfering with her life and her decisions about it.10 Reply
8 moReligion is incompatible with humanity. Nothing shows greater misanthropy than religion as it believes people cannot act morally or be good to each other without it. Furthermore, abortion is never done in the name of atheism or not being religious. Centuries of murder and genocide, however, have been committed in the name of a chosen religion.

10 Reply5.7K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. The miracle of life is exactly that a miracle. Lot of things go wrong. Even catastrophically wrong more often then every day life. Till we have a cure for death itself we need to have knowledge and availability of abortion care as much as medicine and prescription for heart disease.

8 moPeople don't have any common sense anymore. The only abortion that should ever happen is if something at the end of the pregnancy is going seriously wrong and the doctor needs to make a quick decision. Other than that abortion for any other reason should be banned world wide. If someone can not raise the kid, then there should be more adoption places created to solve that problem. There are people who can't have kids that would love to have him or her.
8 moThis may not fly so well on this thread but Iām usually more worried about the woman bearing the kid than I am about the kid who hasnāt even been born yet. Why would we bring another child in this world when the person bringing them in isnāt ready nor desires a kid?
30 Reply3.9K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Tell that to a 13-year-old rape victim, and a woman who will die without getting one. Tell the young girl that she has to carry to term her attacker's baby. Tell the woman who will die that she has to die to carry the baby to term, even if it will be dead with her.

8 moAbortion is a controversial subject, a very personal one. A worldwide ban on abortion is not a good idea. The decision to have a child or not is a personal one, and government should stay out of personal decisions.

Anonymous(30-35)8 moNo, abortion should be a legal option in certain cases, specifically when the life/health of the mother or fetus is at risk, cases of incest or rape, or underage teen pregnancies. Abortion should NOT be legal as just a means of after-the-fact birth control, which is what the vast majority of abortions have historically been for.
10 Reply6.4K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. No, and many people are not religious. Your religion doesn't get to tell me what to do. And besides, there are many religions that do not proscribe abortion. A fetus is not a baby.
216 Reply- 8 mo
@msc545 When exactly? At the moment of conception? Even conception is a continuous process. It's not instantaneous. Are a separate spermatozoa and ovum at the moment of implantation a human? After implantation but before the genetic material fuses? Before the first cell division? When there are two cells? four? eight? sixteen? While we cannot determine a moment when consciousness begins, we can definitely say that before the 24th week of conception, consciousness is not possible. So please tell me what makes a fetus human, and precisely when that occurs.
- 8 mo
It is a human being at the moment of conception. If you ham it after that you are a murderer. Your comments regarding how long this takes betray both your reductionism and your lack of knowledge regarding human physiology. You cannot definitely say *anything* about consciousness until you can define it and also specify where it is located, neither of which you can do.
- 8 mo
Good question. I think it is not murder if there is no brain activity. That assumes that "consciousness" is somehow dependent on brain function for which there is no direct evidence, since we cannot even define or locate "consciousness".
Since you are using the term, maybe you should define what a "person" is. - 8 mo
I understand what you're trying to do here, but you're missing the point. The presence or absence of brain activity is not the deciding factor. The deciding factor about whether or not what you're about to do is murder is to ask yourself. The question is this presently likely to grow into a human being or is it presently a human being. In the case of the unborn child. It may not have any brain activity at that age, but that really is not relevant. What is relevant is its potential and in this case, the potential is to grow into a complete human child. Obviously the individual whose brain dead has no potential for that or much of anything else. Therefore, I think if you harm the brain dead individual further, it is not murder. If you harm The unborn child, the fact that it has the potential to grow into a complete functioning human means what you've done is actually murder by destroying that potential.
You cannot logically compare a brain dead human to and incompletely developed unborn child and say that whatever you do to either one of them is perfectly okay. In the case of the unborn child, it isn't okay. It's murder. - 8 mo
You keep presenting false choices and dramatizing them as if they were real. A false choice, also known as a false dilemma or false dichotomy, is a logical fallacy where only two options are presented as mutually exclusive possibilities when more options or a middle ground actually exist. This fallacy oversimplifies complex issues by creating a misleading "either-or" scenario, often presenting one undesirable choice and one desirable one to force a decision.
8 moYes it should be on the account that God blessed us with kids not to have them aborted which is murder in his eyes... n if you don't want kids then don't fornication!

"Abortion is legal throughout pregnancy in Minnesota ā there is no ban or limit on abortion in Minnesota based on how far along in pregnancy you are. Parental involvement is not required in Minnesota."
There have been 8 instances of abortions after the fact in Minnesota. This little nugget was "fact checked " by ABC news during Trump's debate with Kamala. They erroneously said it was not true. Later the fact checkers were fact checked and it was found that it happened 8 times. Naturally ABC did not air a correction. - 8 mo
"We rate this claim: False." www.aljazeera.com/.../fact-check-are-born-alive-babies-really-unprotected-in-some-us-states
"Perkins said, āIn 12 states, children born alive after a failed abortion have no legal protection, and in three more states children born alive after an abortion had legal rights that governors ā like Tim Walz ā repealed.ā
Legal experts said this is wrong. Every person who is born has protections under federal and state laws. Itās illegal in every state to kill a baby after it is born.
In Minnesota, Walz approved a state law that updated language related to infants āborn aliveā. This change did not remove the protections every person who is born has under Minnesota and federal laws.""
