President Trump on Thursday announced a slew of punishing tariffs on pharmaceuticals, heavy trucks, kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities and upholstered furniture, saying import taxes on those products would go into effect on Oct. 1.

The tariffs range from 25 percent to 100 percent, with the highest levies applying to “any branded or patented” pharmaceutical product coming into the United States. That decision poses considerable political risk, given that Americans could face higher prices for drugs, as countries pull back from exporting them into the United States.

Trump said exceptions would be made for pharmaceutical companies that are building manufacturing facilities in the United States.

This year, as Trump has repeatedly threatened to impose tariffs on imported medicines, most of the largest brand-name drugmakers have announced plans to spend billions of dollars building or expanding U. S. factories.

Trump said they would protect American producers from “unfair outside competition.” He said his actions were justified by “large scale ‘FLOODING’” of the products into the USA by other countries.

“It is a very unfair practice, but we must protect, for National Security and other reasons, our Manufacturing process,” Trump wrote.

Higher costs from the new tariffs will be felt across sectors of the economy, from housing and health care to logistics. The president also said the United States would begin imposing a 50 percent tariff on imported kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities and associated products, along with a 30 percent tariff on imported furniture and a 25 percent tariff on foreign trucks.

The tariffs will be issued under a national security related law, known as Section 232, that Trump has used to issue tariffs on steel, aluminum, cars and copper. On Wednesday, the Trump administration announced that it was beginning new investigations under the law into imports of robotics, industrial machinery and medical devices, which could result in tariffs.

This is fucking comical to watch. From the mid 1980's to 2020, "Offshoring" was the hot, smart thing to do. All the cool CEO's were doing it. And government policy sure wasn't doing anything to stop US corporations from exploiting developing nation's dirt cheap slave labor, child labor, and utter lack of pollution regulations.

So these wunderkind CEO's stretched their supply chains 12,000 miles over water to the other side of the planet, laid off hundreds of thousands of US workers, and watched their share prices climb along with their bonus checks. They were fucking rock stars!

Then a pandemic hit and exposed the fact that the Guns n Roses boys in the C-Suite were actually lazy and stupid. They hadn't diversified their supply chain and built it to resist stress from wars and natural disasters. They went all in on the cash grab and stopped there, thinking they'd be gone and someone else would be left holding the bag when the shit hit the fan.

And that's pretty much how we got here boys and girls. Oligarch's calling the shots for "MORE". A corrupt government helping to make it happen. And stupid or apathetic voters lining up like sheep to go through the motion of voting without ever understanding what they were voting for or what the people they elected were voting for in the House and Senate. I include Democrats and Republicans here. Nearly all the politicians have been hand picked by the 1%.

You let them shift this economy from a diversified agricultural, technology, manufacturing, and service based economy to one minus the manufacturing. Now the agricultural sector has been destroyed. Bill Gates thanks you. He'll buy your ranch or farm for 15 cents on the dollar. Monsanto will pay the same. As will Blackstone.

So we're down to a service and tech based economy. But we're falling behind in the tech sector. And the brain drain has begun. The best minds on the planet are being actively recruited by other nations as they run for their lives from the USA's Fascist White Supremacy. @David318578 When Trump was running the first time he was being interviewed and he talked about a renovation project he did in New York as part of a charity he was funding. There was a skating rink that was no longer functional. Nobody could figure out what was wrong with it. Trump got involved. He called the president of the Montreal Canadianes and he got hooked up to their head engineer in the Omni building which is whare the team plays hockey.
He explained in detail what the problem was and the steps that he took to fix it. I know a little bit about refrigeration so I knew that he knew what he was talking about.
I thought the fact he could rattle off details of this random project that he worked on and how he knew exactly how to solve the problem without a lot of committees and studies was quite impressive.
I think that this is why no other president has accomplished so much in only 7 months.
