As usual, the ragebait story provides only part of what’s happened. That woman is a leftwing politician and has been threatened and harassed by some right extremists. The police takes this seriously, as there have been numerous attacks on politicians. But politician or not, the German law clearly states that no one has to accept insults, threats and harassment. Every citizen can report incidents against him, in fact even easier than public figures, for whom the law states they have a higher threshold of having to accept even harsh criticism.

you gotta understand: in germany, free seech only exists if you have the majority opinion or opinions on benign subjects. as soon as it gets political or personal, you can't have free speech. we don't have the first ammendment here. also insults are a criminal offense here. we do have freedom of expression laws but we also have "Human dignity is inviolable" as our very first constitutional law. so basically if someone takes offense, you can't say it.

i would say if you're out in the streets, in the real world, most germans will speak English. but we're talking about politicians. politicians are incompetent bastards xD. so yeah. also it's sort of a regional thing too. you won't find many English speakers in eastern germany, cause the soviet occupation time made that less culturally relevant in that area.

lol you know somethign just came to my mind that i forgot xD during the corona time when nobody payed attention, our demented government actually made a law (§ 188 StGB) which explicitly prohibits insulting politicians. that law sees insulting a politician as more than insulting a private person. they see it as insulting an official, which is a worse crime than just insulting a regular person. we had "insulting an official" as a separate law which was used to punish people if insulting police personel on duty. but this new law is effectively used to basically silence parts of the opposition now.

A "First Nations" family as you guys call them, took the table from our campsite and refused to give it back.
White Canadians too. One charged us extra at Capilano because we were American. One lady was yelling at people to move over on the escalator, and my cousin's White Canadian friend wouldn't even help him move and ran off when his group got jumped. Another Polish-Canadian girl that my cousin was drinking with just walked into our campsite and put a bottle of vodka down, no hello or nothing. I got told I can't film a PUBLIC market.
The only friendly Canadians I've met were Quebecers and Niagara Falls people.

But the AFD constantly makes remarks that are literally citation of Nazi slogans but then they claim ignorance and claim to "just be patriotic". @beefcakebradybatson well not all afd members and voters are nazis. but since the afd is the Right most party in the german pairlament, they have the largest number of nazis of all parties. that's how it works in a democracy. the extremes won't choose candidates that are further from their own interest. plus there actually are some verified nazis in the party even relatively high up. the thing is tho: "being a nazi" is not by itself a criminal offense. so that can't be avoided. thought crimes don't exist. we can only punish actions, not convictions and actions can mask convictions pretty well.

and i absolutely agree that the way our society and media deals with these nazis creates more of them in effect. cause that's what oppression always ultimately does. it creates more resistence untill that resitence gets unmanagable. that's what's happening in UK right now.

i think that entire "illegal immigrants are harming our economy" is just a giant red herring trying to disctract from the HUGE overspending and the unmanagable cost of the welfare state. like the immigration costs like 1% or less of the state household. and everyone hyperfocuses on that while in germany 40% is payed for social security services and 20% for "arming to defend against russia". and nobody cares about these things and the fact hat our birth rate is completely down the drain at 1.3 almost as bad as japan and it won't get better but nobody plans to do shit about it.

Germany has some very strict laws about what a person can, and cannot, say on social media, in particular against personal attacks. This isn't a case of "wasting resources", it's about enforcing the law.
