How do you feel about Eric Adams dropping out of New York City mayoral race?

The outgoing mayor announced on Sunday that he would not seek re-election.

In a nine-minute video posted to his social media accounts, Adams, seated on the stairs of his Brooklyn home next to a portrait of his mother, explained his decision. Observers of the campaign had increasingly anticipated such a move, having noted the absence of campaign events for more than a week. "I cannot continue my re-election campaign. The constant media speculation about my future and the campaign finance board's decision to withhold millions of dollars have undermined my ability to raise the funds needed for a serious campaign," he said.

The remaining candidates are Democrat Zohrna Mamdani, Democrat Andrew Cuomo (running as an independent, after losing the Democrats' primary) and Republican Curtis Sliwa.

There were rumors that Donald Trump was urging Adams heavily to drop from the race, not to split anti-Mamdani vote.

Eric Adams has been a complete failure - hell, he "defunded the police" and indirectly caused a big spike in crime as a result, and that's just one of many of his issues. He's squandered billions of dollars of NY taxpayers housing illegal immigrants in his "sanctuary city" which he has defended multiple times.

Of course, Mamdani is an outright Communist, and will absolutely destroy NYC if elected its mayor - but given NYC voters, that's certainly a possible outcome.

I think it's unlikely that NYC would elect a Republican (though they should), and between Mamdani and Cuomo, Cuomo is better by miles and miles, though he's certainly not ideal.

Chicago has a socialist mayor. I don't live there, but I didn't hear they collapsed.

Chicago has major financial problems, but you don't hear about it because the city is 100% Democrat and they have no incentive to make that public. They also have the highest murder rate of any major city, but because it is largely black-on-black murder, and mostly confined to black neighborhoods, they don't feel any need to take action there either. The mayor's office ties the hands of the police, and the District Attorney refuses to prosecute the crimes of minorities, or under-charges them, ensuring that the crime continues.

This has been going on in Chicago for 100+ years, and because they vote Democrat, nothing ever changes. Better that people die and business owners lose businesses than to lock up criminals.
