What do you think of the beef between Pope Leo XIV and Donald Trump on immigration?

The American pope said last week "“Someone who says I’m against abortion but is in favor of the death penalty is not really pro-life,”. While he didn't mention anyone bad name, it is obviously implied that he meant Donald Trump's deportation policies towards illegal immigrants.

This was pushed back by Trump's press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who said that she “would reject there was inhumane treatment of illegal immigrants in the United States under this administration,” then criticized former President Joe Biden’s immigration policies and highlighted some of the violent crimes committed by undocumented immigrants.

“This administration is trying to enforce our nation’s laws in the most humane way possible, and we are upholding the law,” she said during Wednesday’s press briefing. “We are doing that on behalf of the people of our country who live here.”

It’s not the first time the White House — which has displayed its religious, and specifically Christian and Catholic, fervor via policy — has disagreed with the Vatican. Earlier this year, Vice President JD Vance, another staunch Catholic, sparred with the late Pope Francis over the administration’s hardline immigration policies.

The Catholic Church does not -  DOES. NOT.  - require nations to have open borders. Nations have the right and responsibility to make  and enforce  laws and immigrants  must  obey them; immigrants are just as bound to the Fourth Commandment, which binds the conscience to lawful and just authority. Yes, immigrants must not be mistreated, but sending them back to their nation of origin for just cause  is not  "mistreatment". Here is a homily by Father Chris Alar... And here is a mission he preached about immigration as well. I've not watched it, but I can assume it's much more thorough and comprehensive (for whatever reason, G@G wouldn't let me embed this one) ...  And for the record, I have three immigrants in my family, two of whom are from Latin American countries. Both of them support Trump's immigration policy. I'd hazard the third does too. And though I'm trying to be more cautious in what I say about the Holy Father, I will say that this is one area where Catholics  may  differ with him. And this is coming from one of Leo's own predecessors, Pope Benedict XVI... A Catholic may  NOT  dissent from the Church or the Holy Father on matters of settled dogma, like abortion, contraception, or euthanasia. On matters of prudential judgement though, we may, so the death penalty, immigration, how best to help the poor, and so forth. In such matters, it must be done with caution, love, respect, and prudence.

I have no idea what the Pope's take is.

I am 100% in agreement with TRUMP on immigration.

This is actually the sole reason he was elected president in 2016 and 2024. If the country didn't have a wide open border with millions of illegals coming in Trump would have NEVER been elected.

If the country had been sane and rational all along and treated immigration as a privilege and the country had kept its border secure and kept immigration at SMALL LEVELS and only admitted those that helped the country and who has pro USA mindset.

Trump would have never run and he would have never won.

Since the country chose madness and that the entire world should get to move here and any push back was "racism" and millions should get to come in, including criminals, terrorists, those who hate the country, those who want to import their religion and worldview and impose it on us, those who never want to learn English or ever assimilate or join our culture... that got Trump elected.

Immigration got Trump elected. This ONE issue.

Since he won the popular vote then this is what the MAJORITY want. Someone to get control of the invasion.

Pope don't like it? Tough shit.

The Pope knows that Trump isn't "Christian"; he just won't say it out loud, nor should he. All he has to say is "look at the behaviors and what springs forth from his mouth". That's all you need to know about anybody, and in Trump's case, he convicts himself every time he opens his mouth.

I said long ago that 'the left NEVER HAS TO LIE about anything Trump says or does, all you have to do wait and get on video". While that's good enough for the rest of the world, magats will still deny what they see with their own eyes or hear with their own ears. That is why they're stupid.
