Should immigrants be given clothes to help them assimilate?

We all know how important it is to force immigrants to assimilate. That's why our government gives them free clothes to help them fit in and look like the rest of us. Don't they look smart in their nice clothes and you can tell they're really happy.

Do you think this policy would work in the USA?

No one should be "forced" to assimilate. For some immigrants, assimilation wasn't the reason they left home. They came here for a better life for themselves and their children, not to toss off their language and culture.

Often it takes a generation for those from foreign countries to want to join cultures and practices in their adopted countries.

It's usually their children and grandchildren who fully live in and accept both cultures. Free clothing is window dressing. It's given to homeless people, but does it change the issues they have that are more than skin deep?

Immigrants in U. S. green-card programs, meaning they're here legally and in the pipeline to be citizens, are offered of all kinds of programs to learn English and about the history, responsibilities of citizens and many cultures here.

People have to choose to assimilate. Just as they have to choose what clothing to wear or not wear to "fit in." Immigrants can't be forced or rushed. Accepting the new and foreign takes time. Just as any permanent change does.

No. There's nothing wrong with their own clothes. We used to have a family of Sikh's living a couple blocks from us and they just wore their normal Hindu clothes. Nothing wrong with that. It was actually quite nice seeing something different from what everyone else was wearing! If THEY want to assimilate then THEY can get clothes to do so.

Legal? No. If they cannot afford clothes and need hand outs then we shouldn't be bringing such dependent immigrants into the country. We should bring in contributors not leeches.

ps, if legal immigrants don't want to assimilate. They should be deported. We should screen them well enough, screen who we allow to move in and live permanently in our homeland that would don't invite any in that have no interest in becoming Americans and assimilating and joining our culture.
