Well he wasn’t Spanish and I don’t know why he really gets credit for something the Vikings already did way before him, but I also heard he slaughtered many indigenous people here and before getting here in Puerto Rico also

I think evidence is showing the Vikings actually were in North America before Columbus. Maybe it should be called Scandinavia Day instead!

I can see why people would mistake him as an Italian. But I never understood why the idea that he ran around killing the natives. He intended to go to India and we originally called the natives "Indians" because that was what Columbus mistook them as.

That would mean that he fully intended to go to India start killing people there. Why? Was he trying to piss India off and risk getting Spain into a war with them? What proof do we have that he even intended to pull an offensive like that? I don't follow the logic here.

The narrative that he arrived at the Americas by mistake, made some trades with the natives and left satisfies Occam's Razor much more.
