Is China the new global leader?

Canada, which historically has been the closest ally to the US is in the process of shifting alliances to China. Businesses from the EU have been meeting in China all year seeking help with robotics and atomization. Tech companies have been meeting with China and securing rare earth contracts which come with restrictions on selling into the US. Korea and Japan have openly said they don't think a trade deal with the US makes economic sense based on the investment required to complete a deal.

Every country that feels slighted by Trump seems to be brokering deals with China and this has only strengthened China. Clearly this is accelerating China's assent to the top of the food chain, but the real question is China the global leader now or are we still a months away.

If China takes over, it will take several years. However, if we have a president who can mend our relationships, we can regain some power and possibly become the global leader again. Vance, Newsom, whoever else wins will probably be able to do this, but I don't know how confrontational they are.

The concern is every country is flocking to China for trade and this will make them the global leader quicker than anyone could have anticipated. Most countries appear to be willing to wait out the next 3 years and make minor trade deals elsewhere.

The thing is that likely Trump's tenure in office will return the trade conditions with the U. S. to normal, or previous levels. We still have a high demand market. Trade partners will find value in trading here without Trump's trade war.

That seems like a long way off from our current conditions. Relationships around the globe need to be completely rebuilt and there's nothing to indicate that's going to happen any time soon. Canada is on the verge of eliminating tariffs on Chinese cars which could end the decades of integrated auto manufacturing. When a US auto plant closes in Canada, a European car manufacturer moves in. The US isn't boosting production, its losing markets.

It certainly looks like China is making smart moves and ascending in world power while the USA under tRump and the MAGA cult are squandering every advantage the USA ever had and declining fast into a Fascist 3rd world power with nukes. What can go wrong?

No, China is in trouble since the US is decoupling from the Chinese economy. The EU has signed a huge trade deal with the US. Canada is resisting but any country that deals with China will get the same treatment that the US got. China will put tariffs on their goods just like they did for the US and as a result the one way trade deals will be bad for them in the long run.

The EU hasn't actually signed a trade deal. They have agreed to some framework just like India, Korea and Japan and those agreements have since fallen apart and those countries have stated they are shifting their efforts away from trade with US. The EU is spending a lot more time in trade talks with China than they are with the US. Canada is expected to sign an agreement with China eliminating tariffs on cars and agriculture. The US doesn't seem very eager to trade globally while it seems like every other day China is meeting with a different country.

Exactly. These "trade announcements" mean little to nothing. The gargantuan numbers spouted by Trump are pure fantasies. The man is so utterly incompetent in international trade.

@DryGermanGuy Countries announce trade deals after its signed when they can produce documents to the public with details but Trump is so desperate he has to announce agreements to make agreements as trade deals. Japan and Korea walked away from the US proposal without any counterproposal. Canada has been taunting Trump with commercials all week and they can do that because they've pivoted away from the US and saved their economy by aligning with the EU and Asia like everyone else. Trump miscalculated by believing that everyone needs the US forever.

Exactly. It needs are very large deal of naiveté and missing education to believe into empty slogans like "90 deals in 90 days." Even one trade deal in 90 days would be a real outlier. But, worry not, the people will learn - the hard way.

The US is the most lucrative market in the world. Trump had secured trade deals with many countries including the EU. At the same time he is bringing industry back to the US so we are less dependent on foreign countries. He recognizes that it is best to deal from a position of strength.

The EU deal isn't a deal yet and the EU has stated that there is a lot of work to do to before an agreement can be signed. The US is the most lucrative market right now but it looks like other nations are betting on China to be the more lucrative in the next few years. Canada has been trolling Trump with that TV ad, they just put quotas on US cars and are allowing China to export cars into Canada tariff free. They don't seem to care about exporting to the US like they did 9 months ago. What's changed?

@DryGermanGuy And yet out GDP has increased, inflation has been stable and all 3 major stock indexes are at all time highs. There will be instability because foreign countries do not like having the gravy train stop but they need access to the lucrative US market.

The GDP is rising on paper because of the added tariffs. The Biden job growth of 15, x million jobs has inverted into a net job loss (for which of course the statistician had to be fired). And the agricultural sector has been screwed long-term.
