Should residents of Alaska and Hawaii pay more for USPS postage? Maybe even just when they send and/or receive mail? Extreme rural areas too?

A 2023 analysis by the Wrangell Sentinel showed what could happen if USPS created a special "Zone 10" for Alaska, Hawaii, and U. S. territories. For a half-pound Priority Mail Express package shipped from Seattle to Anchorage, the cost would have increased by about 27%.. The price disparities for private carriers indicate that 25% increase would be a basic "floor" with prices rising MUCH higher for air delivery within Alaska and the islands of Hawaii
