Is Seattle, and the Pacific Northwest in general, friendlier than the Southern US?

In my experience at least, yes, it really is.

In downtown Seattle, people are friendly and will smile and talk to you. In the bars and coffee shops everybody is approachable. It also has a high amount of single men which is a plus. And isn't this where Kurt Cobain is from?

In the Southern States, this so-called "Southern Hospitality"? There's no such thing. No matter where you go in the South, everybody seems grouchy and aloof.

I stay away from Seattle, so I don't know. But Washington people in general were usually very friendly each time I went. It was Oregon people who were assholish, though this has changed in recent years.

I disagree with you on the Southerners. Aside from Texas people and some "Florida" people, Southerners, at least TRUE Conservative Southerners born and raised, have probably been the friendliest people I've met in the US. The only other exception is rich areas like Jekyl island where some asshole wanted $5 from me to see a church for 1 minute. But I had a professor from Louisiana, he would take his students out for beer and pay for it, and he would throw crawfish boil. And once on the coast, me and my dad were at a restaurant, and we had to step away from our table for a minute and some young asshole West Coast couple stole our table, and it was an Alabama family who told us we could sit at THEIR table. No West Coast person would ever let a stranger sit at their table.

I've been to all the Gulf States and Georgia, and the people were mostly very friendly. The few exceptions were places like St. Augustine, Miami, Pensacola and Jekyll. And the airports in Texas. I worked at a campground and the Southerners we got were always so pleasant, except for Texas people. Well some of them were polite, but if you didn't do something by THEIR book they'd lose their shit. A Kentucky guy was the only other one I had a trouble with. Even Florida people, while it's true they are crazy, are at the same time very nice, helpful and sociable. And overall much more pleasant to be around. Yeah, during our visits through the South, we mostly had a very pleasant experience with the locals. In fact, the people is one of the reasons I would choose vacationing in the South over New England for instance. We're from California and they were nice to us. Maybe it's because we were White and Conservative. But anyhoo. That being said, I wouldn't want to live there, because I'm not a nationalistic soldier lover, but as tourist, I like going to the South.

I have lived in Florida my entire life and consider it to be a rather friendly place. There are parts of the South that try to be more cosmopolitan and they are not as friendly.
