Is Amer. slavery given less attention than necessary?

in my opinion Holocaust is given all around more press than New World slavery even though in my opinion it was way worse. There are accounts of slaves being put in cages for birds to pick on them, hot lead dropped on them.

Captain Cook relates, that he saw a woman named Rachel Lauder, beat a slave most
ummercifully, and would have murdered her, had she not been prevented; the girl’s crime was,
the not bringing money enough from on board of a ship, whither she had been sent by her
mistress, for the purpose of prostitution.

I do not think we need to decide which of the wrongs is worse. They are both a stain on human history.

American slavery or chattel slavery is pretty much agreed on to be the worst form of slavery to have ever existed. Slavery itself has existed against and by pretty much everyone for as long as recorded human history exists and is not exclusive to any ethnicity. Unless we want to be technical and point out that the Slavic people were enslaved so often the word Slave comes from there. It was just called other things before then though.

The reason that chattel slavery was so awful comes down to cost. A slave traditionally has been a big investment. Like buying a very fancy new sportscar and often treated the same. Which certainly is not humane but there was an understanding of value. Many years of savings.

When chattel slavery happened, American slavery, new forms of transportation along with being able to trade a few guns for a ship full of people cut the costs down significantly. Slaves went from a luxury to a common good. And treatment changed to match.

In a sense, as awful as it was, the outcome was good. We might not acknowledge it but it is what caused slavery to end. Something that has been a constant for many thousands of years. Of course the fact it was bad enough to make people go "Actually, let us not do this and also force the rest of the world to not do this." after thousands of years of it being normal says a lot.

American slavery is a small chapter in the story of slavery and far less abusive than other chapters. It pales in comparison to Islam based slavery. And more focus should be given to slavery happening today

Eleven million people were summarily murdered by a stare that created industrial murder. My guess is that these 11 million would rather be slaves than dead.
