If a person who isn’t married but in a relationship passes away, do you think the parents or boyfriend/girlfriend should inherit their money?

If they didn’t have a will in my opinion it should all go to the parents.

By default it's going to the parents or next of kin. Ultimately why meeting the parents is a large step in the relationship progression for this reason in an unspoken way.

Life does happen and myself being superstitious will say cartoon piano falling out of the sky can happen. It's important to have an estate plan for yourself and your parents. My adult self now is defined by my parents untimely passing away with no plan and figuring out what to do.

Back to the question. An untimely death of a child where the parents are alive and the child's relationship is potentially by relationship of the patients a loving child of there own in founding a family or a potential stranger in many ways.

By legal reasoning there is no clean cut solution. Like marriage certificates is a clean cut legal solution anything before that is ambiguous. If you're good with the parents hopefully something can be worked out but these legal steps are there for a reason.

It depends on circumstances in part. If there are shared assets then it would be understandable for part to go to the boyfriend. Other than that the parents would be the legal next of kin

It does go to the parents, or whoever their next of kin is. It would go to a third cousin before it goes to the boyfriend or girlfriend without a will.

If you ain't in the will you're entitled to nothing even if you are family in my opinion. I don't have one yet but I'm thinking about taking care of that soon and my will is basically going to say that my family can pick through my belongings keep what they want then sell everything else and give all the money to Ukraine.

that's going to depend on how long the relationship had lasted. If it's more than a couple of years, then I think the partner is more entitled to the assets than the parents. I don't know about the legal status. I think that in some of the United States the partner could be award part or all of the estate. No idea about other nations.

The law says next of kin generally. If there is no will, the deceased didn't care enough to make sure the girlfriend /boyfriend was prioritized over family. I think it's gonna be a struggle in court.

When I got my first job I had to list a primary and secondary beneficiary. My girlfriend (now fiancée) was my primary, so if I die, she gets everything. If I don't make a new primary if she dies before me, it goes to my sister.
