Is never being into drugs the bare minimum in a person?

This is the 4th time I've been reading the same thing about someone raised old-school by parents and them saying that thanks to that they never got into drugs. But most are just average citizens without any real skills or abilities; always working for bosses till old age. They are happy being stuck at mediocrity and think just because they never did drugs, that they're the best people ever.

Honestly not being a drug addict is just the bare minimum in a human. What do you think?

“Bare minimum” is a tricky phrase, because it depends on what someone values.

But I’ll put it plainly

Not doing drugs is a green flag, but it’s not the only baseline that matters.

Plenty of people never touch substances and still lack integrity, empathy, or emotional maturity.

And there are people with past struggles who’ve rebuilt themselves into genuinely solid partners.

So is being drug free a reasonable baseline?

Yeah, for many people, it’s part of “safe, stable, and reliable.”

But the real bare minimum is consistency, self respect, and the ability to show up for others.

Lifestyle choices matter.

Character matters more.

Yeah I've also noticed that a couple of those old-school folks that never did drugs were insulting those that didn't believe in using belts to educate a child and even saying shut up, meanwhile calling themselves a decent person. Talk about hypocrisy. They sure never learned to respect others with different opinions.

That’s the part people forget avoiding drugs doesn’t automatically make someone kind or respectful.

Some of the most ‘traditional’ or ‘clean-cut’ people can still act harsh, judgmental, or hypocritical.

Character isn’t defined by one lifestyle choice.

It shows in how someone treats others, especially when there’s a difference in opinion.

On the other hand I wouldn't trust people who lose their mind after two drinks, start behave like maniacs after two lines coke or can't stop after one line H.
Weakness has many faces and renouncing everything that makes fun just because it can be dangerous is lack of self-confidence. It's always the fun of healthy balance between risk and reward, this is the spice of life.

Balance is good. I just have issues with those drug free people that start insulting others that have different opinions on how to raise a child. It's when they start hurling insults first while calling themselves decent people that doesn't make sense.

It is not the bare minimum but it is one of the things that I looked for in a partner. When you are in a relationship with a druggie there are really 3 parties in the relationship. You, her and the drugs. You are always the odd man out.
