Staten Island is mostly Republican and has many cops and firefighters that live there. The citizens of the island wants to do it. It could work out for the Communists as well. Without the big percentage of Republicans they may never lose another election. Thy just have to deal with the big tax base that is there.

Staten Island is one of NYC's burroughs. No, they cannot disconnect from the rest of NYC to form its own city. It's like Wales or Ireland breaking from the UK in bigger form. BYW, those SI'ders I have heard and one I met, are known for being some of the racist and rude people in NY. They are not much like regular NYers. One teacher from there in a school I taught, was from there, her husband was a cop, and she acted as if everyone should be afraid of her.

I highly doubt Staten Island’s legislators and local officials would do any of the sort.

And you say “mostly Republican” however Lincoln brought the nation together and fought secession for one, for two Andrew Cuomo received the most votes out of Staten Island in the most recent election dude.
