The reason we had a great depression was because the credit system has been introduced and a ton of people dug themselves in a hole that they can't escape from quickly. The roaring 20s was people abusing that system to live in luxury and the great depression was them realizing that they owe a shit ton of money and had to eat dirt to make it all up.

That is not true. The economy was awful in the late 70s under Jimmy Carter, even worse than anything that we have experienced. That is why he was just a one-term president.

Also, there was a recession in 1920-1921 under Woodrow Wilson.
