It is amazing how people think Republicans are the economy masters.
Because republicans are spectacularly bad for business and the economy. They simply don't know what the fuck they're doing and they're only in it to line their pockets.
However, they are experts at pinning the damage done by their incompetence on democrats.
OH MY , putting it on them
All of the above. Also, Republicans have presided over every financial scandal for the last 200 years.
Do you see them saying Obama caused the housing crisis when it was before elections?
Obama didn't take office until 2009

because they are unwilling to understand that their old model for government is antiquated. the healthiest economy is one where there is a strong middle class. they generally unconcerned with anyone other than enabling and building up themselves
It's because "Conservative Thinkers" and Conservative brains in general are morons who don't have the mental capacity to understand that they are stupid and their ideas are hilariously fundamentally simplistic and flawed.
Your ignorant, sweeping generalizations about conservatives are insulting, slanderous and just plain wrong. I observe that it seems to be the left that is full of hate, and will resort to violence on occasion, because anyone who dares disagree with them are "evil." I CAN'T STAND people who pin labels on other people and then act as if the label is the person, which it is not!
@Keyboardkat ,
Like I said you're all morons who think you are intelligent. You just proved me right.
You haven't answered one thing I said, but you insult me personally. That's what you shitheads do, resort to ad hominem attacks instead of actually talking about facts and issues. Go crawl back in your spider hole. You're not worth wasting my time on!
Clinton left office with a national surplus, having planned and carefully implemented the elimination of half a million obsolete government jobs and many regulations. Nobody noticed because the jobs weren't essential and the redundant were treated with respect.
Unlike Musk's minions.
The budget being in surplus for a few years was due to Republican control of Congress, favorable energy prices, and restrained health care inflation. Clinton just happened to be along for the ride. Cutting 377,000 federal jobs in 1993-94 certainly didn't result in budget surpluses beginning in 1998, which came along at the peak of the business cycle.
@Avicenna The budget going back into deficit 20 years before the debt would have been paid off was 100% down to Bush. Who then started two wars, one of which lasted for the next 20 years. Trump and the Republicans are spending like a drunken sailor and the Fed is propping up banks worryingly like before the last financial crisis.
DHS just bought a warehouse in Georgia at four times the price it sold for just a few years ago, from a Russian realtor. You're being robbed blind, but IOKIYR, right?
It was because of the LINE ITEM VETO
Goaded, you can't possibly be that unfamiliar with the US system to not know that no spending is simply "The President"s. As I am sure you know, spending bills originate in the House of Representatives and Congress has the power of the purse.
The national debt would not have been paid off in 20 years. You are assuming that there would be no change from the conditions that prevailed at the end of the 1990s (which was the top of the business cycle in which there was no recession for a decade) until 2020, which is beyond ridiculous as an assumption. Furthermore, the Federal Reserve made it clear that a national debt of $5.6 trillion in 2000 (not all of which was publicly held) was getting too low for them to conduct Open Market Operations, which is how it controlled the federal funds rate at the time.
Being the dishonest leftist totalitarian that you are, you also didn't mention the inflation caused by overspending during the portion of the Biden Administration where Democrats also had control of Congress.
You're welcome to provide sources to back up your claims about current Fed activity, but we are all accustomed to your fun house-style distortions of any facts when you aren't outright lying. The same goes for the DHS purchase.
@Avicenna It takes the president or a veto-proof majority to pass a budget. Did Republicans have a veto-proof majority? No? Then it had a lot to do with the president and actual negotiations in and with Congress (remember them?).
No, the national debt wouldn't have been paid off in 20 years, but it was headed that way until Bush and his Republicans intentionally turned the surplus back into a deficit before starting two very expensive wars.
Talk about dishonest! You know very well that the spending and inflation were both due to the pandemic and happened in every country in the world. Biden's administration managed to bring the US economy back on track faster than most other countries.

Goaded, I know you think your fellow leftists can do no wrong, but your revisionist history and economic realities do not support your claims. The business cycle, which has a huge effect on budget balances, had already begun to turn down by the end of 2000, meaning the national debt would have increased again no matter who was in power.
The Democrats spent way too much in 2021 and 2022, which fueled the high inflation of those two years. Funny how Robert Reich had no complaints then, not even when the economy shrank for two consecutive quarters at the beginning of 2022 in NOMINAL terms (great job of "getting the economy back online", Bidenites).
So, you have finally admitted that the President doesn't decide the budget and national debt by themselves. We also know that there was a larger budget deficit when Democrats were negotiating with other Democrats during the first two years of Clinton's presidency than when he putatively was negotiating with Congressional Republicans. And that despite a fall in military spending due to the relaxed post-Cold War security environment and the resultant drawdown of the active-duty US military. It means that it very much does matter who controls Congress.
I will evaluate your unimportant and biased claims regarding the property, but extensive past experience with you leads me to believe you've misrepresented the matter (there's never been an instance where you did not lie or misrepresent).
@Avicenna I know you're going to keep squirming and pretending I just don't understand things I clearly do. Bush made an explicit choice to take the country from being one with a surplus to one with a deficit. It wasn't something beyond anyone's control, like Covid, or even a recession. He had a chance to pay down the debt, at least for a while, and threw it away. You're all for spending when it's a Republican president and against it when they're a Democrat, simple as that. (It also answers the question.)
The Bush and Trump "tax cuts have added $10 trillion to the debt since their enactment and are responsible for 57 percent of the increase in the debt ratio since 2001, and more than 90 percent of the increase in the debt ratio if the one-time costs of bills responding to COVID-19 and the Great Recession are excluded."

It's interesting that you don't mention control of Congress, a strange omission given the power of the purse and power to tax that Congress has.
Congress was controlled by the Democrats beginning in January 2007 until January 2011.
Congress was controlled by the Democrats during the 1990-91 recession.
Congress was controlled by the Democrats during the recessions of the 1970s.
Congress was controlled by the Democrats from 1933 until the Depression ended, and it was evenly split from 1931-33.
Democrats controlled Congress during the 1958 recession.
The Democrats controlled the House during the 1981-82 recession.
Democrats controlled the Senate during the 2001 recession.
Democrats controlled the House during the 2020 COVID recession, and Democratic governors were the most enthusiastic enforcers of lockdowns that caused the recession.
Depression started with 1929 crash
You haven't shown any causation between Republicans and recessions, and as I have indicated to you, Democrats have usually had control of Congress during and even before recessions, an inconvenient fact you have no response for.
Furthermore, you have shown no causation between Republicans being in office and recessions. The same applies to the Great Depression. FDR and huge Democratic majorities in Congress couldn't end the Depression- WWII did.
No causation could just be coincidence.
888theloser has no use for facts like this. He has never even accidentally bumped up against the truth even once in his long, wasted life.
Republicans overheat the economy causing a bigger crash with the idea of make as much as you can when you can and save for that rainy day. Democrats manage the economy with slower growth and a softer crash trying to reduce as much risk as possible. Most economists and people in finance lean Democrat so there's that too.
Don't forget about Jimmy Carter's recession. That was a big one.
😂😂😂😂😂
What comic book did you get this nonsense from?
🫵🤡
@Chazmatazz269 I worked in finance. I clearly know more than you if you think this came from a comic book
It's the same reason that "The party of less government" always expands the government, and " The party of fiscal responsibility" always adds huge debt and increases income disparity.
They use the same playbook;
* rape the economy while in office
* set up the next administration for the blame because we know we'll lose the election
* talk about how the Dems in power now are problem so they can get voted back in
* rinse, repeat, ad nauseum
Same shit, different day. The sad part is, it's still only marginally better when the GOP is out because the USA is still a corporation run by oligarchs. There's just more that goes towards the general welfare when the D's are in.
Trump never had a depression. He was the one that dealt with covid and he made the decision to shut down the economy. However his strong economy enabled the economy to rebound quickly after the economy was reopened,
How come nobody mentions the Obama crash or the Biden recession?
Economy almost collapsed.
Trump had a monster recession , which is why he lost. No cheating , just his incompetence.
Yep, and he knew it was coming and called it a common cold. He had no clue other than we should use bleach to stop it. He just denied it was a big deal. It was a disaster. He should never have shut economy down. Hence , the recession he created by mishandling it.
A vaccine that killed people. Between that and his Tariffs , no wonder Biden had high prices to contend with
@exitseven did you know most of the money in the IRA went to red states? That's because they needed it more. That's how a president is supposed to behave, not ruling on behalf of their voters only.
@888thegreat Almost every person who was harmed by the vaccine would have been far more likely to die from the virus if they hadn't been vaccinated. Myocarditis occurred in 0.007%.
www.ahajournals.org/.../CIRCULATIONAHA.122.059970
@exitseven "The fact remains that he got it done. It saved more lives."? Got what done? The vaccine?
@888theIdiot, you dumbsh*t democrats cried “racism” when Drumpf wanted to stop flights to and from China. You useless idiots have fought him on everything just because you’re sore losers.
You called for a recession all last year and your prediction failed miserably.
The reality is you want the economy to fail to punish people for voting for Trump. You are a psycho.
We are in recession. Just because you deny it doesn't mean were not. Bankruptcies are skyrocketing , Forclosures going up, Food prices still going up. 108,000 people layed off in January. We are in recession.
Tell all the people that lost hiomes, and jobs that
Why are all depressions and recessions caused by Republican Presidents?
@Avicenna I have a posted Debt Clock , and it shows real Unemployment at 20% and if you figured inflation like they did in 1970's , it is 13% . They changed how they figure it by leaving out critical items people pay for so that there would never be inflation over 6% again. And unemployment was changed by taking people still looking for jobs off , so that unemployment can never be over 6% again. I know I lived through the inflation of the 1970's , Boom of 1980's , and the 1990's
Once again, you are not posting any links to your alleged sources and you're making vague claims. No one can evaluate your wild statements without your sources.
Now, tell us what year "they" (there you go with vague claims again) changed how inflation is calculated.
The federal government has six different ways to calculate unemployment rates- are you referring to one of those when you say "real unemployment", or are you referring to another way of measuring unemployment? If it's another way, you need to post a link explaining how that unemployment rate was calculated.
AFAIK, Debt Clock refers to the amount of national debt, not the economic indicators you reference. Furthermore, if you are going to cite current statistics in claiming that we are currently in a recession, you need to provide sources showing what those statistics were in years past using the same calculations. If we are currently in a recession, I doubt we were not during much of the Biden Administration.
don't know but looking at the stock market, I think we are ripe for one...
The issue is it's cyclical and we are in a downward draft...
I seem to remember there was an Obama recession in around 2008!
W Bush , you think wrong. Economy almost collapsed. Obama saved us from a Depression.
Started in 2007
Obama didn't take office until Jan 2009
False. The democrats always cause the mess with irresponsible fiscal policies and practices, and then they blame the republicans who take over to fix it.
Republican Conserve and build wealth, while democrats spend and blow wealth
then why all Recessions and depressions belong to Republicans?
Who has fought the majority of wars and uncontrolled spending that depressions follow? For instance the Vietnam war.
Nixon had Vietnam too.
Nixon ended US military involvement in Vietnam and ended conscription. Not that im saying he was a good president.
I do remember Obama being in office during a recession if I'm correct.
He inherited W Bush mess
Well normally they favored the Rich, but I don’t know what’s with the cycles they have
Could even just be random "dumb luck" as that cat transforming woman witch would say 🧹first Harry Potter movie
@NicholasofAustralia yeah or even a coincidence
Because the Democrats just set the money printers to MAX and the republicans try to fix the issue without deflating the economy more
Same with the right and left in the UK
REPIGLIKSCAM favour the rich over everyone else !!!
I'm not American chuckle, yet in your question poll, I voted D chuckle 🤭😁
Could even just be the coincidence of "who gets stuck or left with holding the hot potato" 🍠 shrug 😮😔
Whether potato's are purple, golden or white
