Trump has lost more manufacturing jobs than gained with Tariffs. With Supreme Court about to rule against him and make him give back what little he has brought in with Tatiffs. You do understand even if Tariffs worked Americans don't buy American made products because they are higher. That is why American Compnaies left in the first place , cheaper labor. You must pay Americans more money , include paid days off, more for Holidays , sick leave, insurance, and pay unemployment insurance. (By the way even with Tariffs it is cheaper to still make products in foreign countries). Plus Trump said Americans are not up to the task for manufacturing and wants foreign workers to those jobs (real reason is that foreign workers work for less). Plus you have AI/Robots for routine manufacturing. SO not many jobs for Americans created and Price will still be higher than foreign products. This is why it won't work.

By the way unemployment just went up over 4% with fixed stats , it is really 20% unemployment. You can look at Debt clock page and look at who is working and who isn't.

It's worse than you think. Canada was screwed when their best friend stabbed them in the back and has been scrambling. Canada was going to upgrade their military with new subs and jets from the US and then struck deals with Korea for subs and Sweden for jets and turned it into comprehensive long term deals that integrates both economies in trade, investment and education. GM and Stellantis closed Canadian plants and Volkswagen, Toyota, Honda and China are moving in. Canada just backed out of US-Canada Auto Pact meetings signaling a shift away from American cars in Canada as Japanese, Korean, European and Chinese cars will be much more affordable because they all are tariff free and expanding into Canada. The void created by the US starting a world wide trade war has turned into a godsend for smaller countries willing to step in. Canada is just one example and although not a large country, you have to add up all the other countries that the US is no longer doing business with this year and US exports have been mostly replaced by all the other countries scrambling to replace lost exports. The US seems to be in no rush to make deals. They can only make agreements to frameworks while everyone waits to see the legalities of Trump's tariffs. While Lutnick and Bessent sit around waiting for the phone to ring, every other trade minister is racking up frequent flyer miles trying to save their economies.

Nobody wants to work on a production line anymore. A lot of people see the tedious repetitive work beneath them. People don't leave university excited for a job screwing toilet brush heads on to handles. Try telling your kids to work hard at school when the only local jobs are as minimum wage factory fodder. Even if Trump brings loads of manufacturing jobs 90% are going to be done by Mexicans anyway.

Unless you massively deregulate, strip workers of any workplace rights, abandon health and safety regulations, bin environmental regulations, and allow companies to pay peanuts you're never going to compete with China.

Tariffs are a complete and utter failure. Importers were forced to pay them, not sellers. It was a stupid insult to the American public. Any manufacturing jobs that do come here, and that's not happening, will be low paying if it requires line workers. If it's mostly automated, there will only be a few supervisory jobs, so that whole thing is bullshit.

I mean, for starters the manufacturing jobs that people are imagining going overseas no longer exists in the first place. Businesses did not stop streamlining factory jobs just because they built their factory over in China so the vast majority of the jobs have just gotten replaced with automation.

Furthermore, even if we magically resurrected those jobs, they are not actually good jobs either. Americans have a very romanticized memory of "good hard manufacturing jobs" but that is still backbreaking labor with a lot of personal risks and at near minimum wage. Most politicians worth their salt do realize that people would hate actual manufacturing jobs if they did manage to get them back somehow so its definitely not something they are eager to do.

There has been roughly 15-20 new major manufacturing projects every month since Trump took office and far more smaller projects. During Biden's term there was roughly 3-5 new projects a month for his entire 4 years. Trump is expanding American manufacturing at 4-6 times as fast as the Democrats. While manufacturing isn't a field for everyone, Trump is making real progress in that sector of the economy.

Amkor Technology broke ground on an expanded semiconductor packaging and test campus in Peoria, Arizona, raising its total investment to $7 billion. It will take time for the factories that are under construction to ne operational. Job creation was good in thr last quarter, twice what was expected. The jobs were not just in one or two sectors but were spread across the economy. This shows Trump's policies are working. There will be more growth next year once the tax cuts take effect and interest rates are lower.
