Do you feel obliged to tip delivery drivers?

I see people often making a big deal about tipping waiters and that is not their job to pay them what they think they deserve because they have a salary. Wondering if people feel the same about delivery drivers?

So, servers have it WAY worse than delivery drivers, speaking as a delivery driver. I get paid a legally-required hourly wage on top of the tips, which I’m immensely grateful for. It used to only be $8 an hour, which is not a living wage as I’m sure you’re aware, now it’s $10. Not a living wage, but better.
Servers don’t have legally-required hourly wages. They are often the exception to this federal law. I can give you the whole history on tipping, how it used to be bribes during prohibition to ensure they got alcohol at the table secretly, how it expanded to be more than just the illegal booze and turned into “exceptional service” but I don’t think that matters. What matters is this is now a cultural norm, same as wearing white at your wedding. And while no one is saying it’s required of you, and I agree they deserve a fair, hourly wage, it doesn’t change the fact that a majority of people don’t care enough to actually change this. Servers in my state are lucky to get paid $2 an hour from the restaurant where they work. Tips are their entire income, it’s what determines whether or not they eat, or make rent. And while I don’t have the power to make the federal government change their minds, I do have the power to tip those who rely on that income and that’s what I choose to do because I know how little you actually make if you rely on tips as even part of your income, let alone the whole of your income.

Well, yes and no— mainly yes, only because I so rarely ever use such a service, and I’m a big sucker and an over-tipper anyway in general. Wait staff are completely a different thing, and should always be tipped, without exception.
Delivery however, depends on factors like, what it is being delivered, when it’s being delivered, and how. Also, whether or not you already pay for ‘delivery service’ (like Walmart +) where you pay a monthly fee already for the service. Or another example is if they already tack on a ‘delivery fee’ like they do with pizza—which pisses me off, as I’d rather give that to the driver as part of his tip, but if they’re already charging you a fee, that makes me less inclined to tip.
Plus is the person delivering it, the one who shopped for it? If it’s food, I guess speed and efficiency would factor into whether or not I feel obligated to tip. So it’s kinda a mixed bag.

As a delivery driver myself we very much appreciate if you would. the company's i work for take a huge slice out of our pay but tip we always get 100% of. and if you want your food quicker i would encourage you to be generous with the tip.

of course at the end of the day the choice is up to you.

I tip when I eat at a sit down restaurant, other than that no. Pay your own employees don't ask us to do it.

Nope, as Asian tip is an insult for me. So I really careful to give people tip, they might feel humiliated.

I tip wait staffs 20% n deliver staffs a little more. They work very very hard and we appreciate their hard work.

Waiters and Waitresses are paid below minimum wage, because they expect to be tipped. Depending on company policy, the waitstaff could make less than minimum wage. I tip delivery drivers if the website gives a tip option.

I don't tip delivery drivers because delivering food to me is their job, and if they are not adequately paid for it, that is a problem between them and their employer, not me.

I usually do tip delivery drivers that work for small businesses like pizza restaurants. But not big corporate drivers like UPS or Amazon.
also I don’t do DoorDash or anything like that.
