Dire need does not automatically infer a willingness or ability to take input from a 3rd party expert (IQ or personality) nor does it guarantee the discipline to actually make use of the information and skills I could teach them. Sometimes people are right where they should be for good reason. And I've wasted enough time trying to educate people who don't want to or are incapable of learning that I'm OK with simply watching them suffer.

Some people are never gonna learn calculus or economics or even the simple math that defines how compound interest works. I can hand them a history book but I can't make them read it or connect the dots. I can explain how tariffs work and how they are designed to be used but I can't stop them from believing lies they learned in their cult's echo chamber. I can't save every moron from themselves.

I don't think anyone is obligated to use their knowledge/skill. I think they are entitled to charge for their time and expertise. And not obligated but likely to willingly help friends and family. I'm sure a doctor, for instance, cannot help themselves diagnosing if someone starts telling them symptoms they have but its upto them what they do with that knowledge. But most good people will at least share on a minimal level.

Yes, except that what I do takes so much education and is so complicated that it's almost impossible to adequately expound it to others in any reasonable amount of time. This is why it takes years and years of school to learn this.

I try to give my patients good advice on how to promote self-care and take care of their bodies and minds in ways that will help them live as long as possible. For the most part, this seems to work reasonably well, though I get some skepticism at times that I think might be a bit unwarranted. For the most part, however, I have found that my patients are grateful for the information I convey and the suggestions I make, and usually implement them to the best of their ability, with good results. This is very gratifying to me as I feel that education is a big part of my job.

I would say taking an oath to do something would be obligation but in a lot of ways shouldn't be about law. Then after create a law contract of due diligence and ramifications of failure of proper practices.

Ultimately an oath and legal obligation should be opposite ends of the spectrum. An oath can be pushing the limits of humanity's ability to achieve and give while the legal system is setting the minimum standards.
