I personally Think its true. Not because they want to protect cultures, Its because they complain about people who are interested, and want to experience other cultures.

I honestly find it comical. The following video talks about a mixed white/Asian girl who hates when white people visit Asian markets.. And the most comical part of it, Asians have come out and given her shit for it because, as one of them has said "Food is a beautiful way to share culture"

I think that's definitely true.
Are people appropriating western culture by wearing jeans or business suits? Is it cultural appropriation for black women to straighten their hair?
Was it cultural appropriation to adopt Arab numerals?
Is it cultural appropriation to be multilingual?
And what could be more wonderful that experiencing ethnic foods?

Nobody has a claim on culture. Culture constantly evolves as people come in contact with each other. We improve by learning from each other.

And individuals become less provincial and ethnocentric by experiencing other cultures. People who don't tend to be racist or xenophobic.

There's nothing wrong from borrowing from other cultures, weve done it for thousands of years, where the issue lies is people taking things that are considered sacred or important to cultural identity and mocking them as a way of ridiculing that culture. As always its the intent that matters.
