The news should be boring, am I wrong?

I remember a time when the news was too boring to watch. now it's like a reality show or a talk show with an agenda. it's grown into networks greed for money and salaciousness to drive revenue. it is primarily funded by a nonprofit organization called CPB (corporate public broadcasting) which gets federal funds and then disperses them to the stations. The CPB was formed by LBJ. and if LBJ did it, then that should tell you something about who has been in control of the news stations for 55 years! the same exact people in control of it now, only they don't rely on federal funding anymore (since July). That's when NPR and PBS went down basically. so the stations that were established like CNN, FOX, ABC, CBS were grown by the same funding as PBS and NPR. when trump signed that bill this year, he killed any hope of successful truthful unbiased news.

Yes! The news should be boring. It should have truthful stories and a revival of real unbiased journalism.

No! I like the drama narrative that exciting news (regardless if it's fake, good or bad) brings.

I like reading my news. Progressively over time news article have become opinion pieces.

For a while I counted facts in front page reports. If a politician said another politician was corrupt I would count that as a fact the first politician had said that. If it said corrupt politician I would count that opinion.

A fairly generous interpretation of facts.

I have found fewer than three facts in the front page lead, the rest being opinions. It is very clear during elections the number of facts decreases and opinion increases.

Call me old fashioned but I think reporters should be reporting facts and separating opinion into clearly defined opinion pieces. Just about all reporters want to be politicians now sadly.

As the cartoon implies news will be more boring if reporting is restricted to reporting facts.

be nice but people respond to fear, and thats what it is about. it should be positive and beneficial rather... like such and such fire occurred due to another dryer not cleaned. here s some links to get your dryer line serviced. etc etc.. an accident occurred due to a failed stop at stop sign, there will be greater enforcement and standards in training going forward , etc etc..

as it is, it's total garbage, worse than awful.

Alternative media takes all viewpoints but AI tends to sharp shoot on true facts. And there is only one truth about an issue.

it takes a lot of different truths/facts, a lot of lies and a lot of filler added up to get a clearer picture of an issue. i try to follow the same story from different outlets. i don't mind biased media. i get the issue and i seek out as many points of view as i can. it's a lot of omitting but you end up with more questions than answers. then you research those questions and find those answers to really understand how it all came to be this way.

if you think that AI isn't biased then you're wrong. it's built into the AI for certain issues and probably constantly updated with only facts that protect the issue from causing harm to anyone. it's still not there though. i run into so many queries that AI is wrong on. it does answer a lot of definitive stuff, but it also gives opinions. but the most common thing i run into is AI saying that it can't answer the question because it might harm someone. i also get a lot of that's a subjective opinion, while still processing a list of reasons it validates "my opinion" lol

Yeah well if the money comes from the government, guess what sort of news you get. Propaganda fake news bullshit. I can tell from experience. We have a tax financed media service in germany and it was originally built to inform neutrally and critique the government but now it's merely a mouthpiece of the government but we still gotta pay for it cause it's written in law.

yes. and back in the 1700's the press was the voice of the people. it was there to criticize the government and it was given freedom. but somewhere along the way they needed keep up with costs when news became more popular. so selling ads happened. richer people started making it a business instead of what it was meant for.

it's not a coincidence that LBJ was the man who formed the CPB. this is a very important clue. one that i didn't know about until today.

People don't pay for news these days. That's the problem. And if you try to regulate it, you automatically corrupt it. It is what it is man. Like if you are a journalists, clicks matter. And what brings clicks is extraordinary or exciting and outrageous shit. Not the factual mundane truth. That's the fundamental issue. And again. As soon as you try to regulate it, you will introduce massive bias.

if you use the word news in your broadcasting it doesn't matter what the show is. people will take it as hard truth and that should be an incredible responsibility. i once saw this video. it had several different stations all covering the same story. they said the exact words!
