Example: Epsteins victims apparently were paid very well, which is a way he was able to coerce so many. Kids were under age and for illegal purposes including prostitution which was as well rape, sexual assault and who knows what. One must presume, no taxes were paid.

Should such monies be returned from both criminal and victims? Or does it pay to get into illegal activities, be victimized and then blame the other persons for doing wrong... and keep the money?

If the illegal ill gotten gains were obtained by fraud and the victims of say a crypto currency or other investment fraud can be identified, then the money should be returned to the victims who suffered the harm.

The Epstein case is a lot more complicated. The victims were minors with zero control over the situation they were put it and the money they received was probably peanuts. It makes little sense to go after those victims since anything you would recover would be inconsequential and you do not want potential witnesses to walk away due to fear of prosecution when the perpetrator's crimes are much more serious felonies. And even with the old perverts involved, it was not a primarily financial crime. It was a felony sexual assault on a premeditated and ongoing basis for years. It's a criminal case about punishment and getting those people out of society for a long long time.

The state shouldn't be allowed to accept or use money found over the course of an investigation. It's fruit borne from a poisonous tree in my opinion.

Maybe you can ask a judge and they can make a decision based on how much was sent to charities the other times. Or by referencing performance and public opinion on them.

In the case you’re referring to, children cannot consent to any of it. So you’re really just talking about punishing the victims. So, absolutely not.
If you’re talking about adults all around, then there are some gray areas.
However, many states have implemented restitution policies for victims of crimes. What you’re suggesting would rescind that. So the concept has been considered and the majority of people are in favor of victims being compensated by their victimizers.

Why the state? Most actual victims of heinous crimes tend to donate to charities if they can. You cannot really enforce it by law, but... Yeah, I'm pretty anti-taxation in almost all cases. Let's keep it for the charities and voluntary donations.
