What’s it like being around politically conservative people?

After my wife and I moved to this area in 2002, I had a lot of friends. They were almost exclusively liberal. The only thing I strongly disagreed with them about was "gun control" and some of us parted ways over that issue.

But in around 2016, all the liberals started going bat shit crazy. They lost their shit when I criticized the megalomaniacal, mass murderer, Hillary. They embraced the anti-white narratives of "white privilege" and "white fragility", even though all of them were white, lived in white neighborhoods, and were financially well off. They supported antifa. They embraced transgenderism. They supported open borders and free stuff to illegal aliens. They acquired severe TDS instead of merely having rational criticism.

I started meeting people who identified as conservative through my music.

When the liberals went full Branch Covidian and supported mandates, masking and eugenics jabs in 2020-'21, they abandoned my wife and me for not being part of the herd.

We both started meeting more people who identified as conservative and found them much easier to get along with. They were fun, laid back, open minded, anti-racist, non-judgemental and non-combative. They weren't combative and didn't wear their ideology on their sleeve.

I found that modern liberals would consider you an enemy if you disagreed with them on even one issue. Conservatives, on the other hand, didn't give a fuck what you believed unless you were an ass hole.

What is interesting is, aside from their loyalty to the Democratic party and professed "liberal values", the liberals I knew were extremely conservative. They had advanced college degrees, came from the corporate world, were uptight about everything, were humorless, believed in authority and hierarchy, and thought they were smarter than everybody else, even though they got their information from TV, NPR and corporate newspapers. They refuse to consider the possibility that they are being manipulated and lied to.

I have what I call 1960s-'70s hippie values. I believe in peace, love, tolerance, open-mindedness, fairness, justice, liberty and freedom. I distrust authority and oppose U. S. imperialism.
As it turns out, those values are the opposite of modern liberalism. And, ironically, many conservatives share those values.

My values haven't changed and I haven't turned "conservative". I am not an ideologue, nor am I swayed by political parties, corporate media or consensus. I do research and think for myself.

It's too bad that modern liberals have turned into such unthinking, obedient ideologues and that their opinion of conservatives is so misplaced.

Same as being around anyone, really.
Most people don’t behave in real life anything like they do online. You won’t know most people’s politics if you don’t actually know them.
I have encountered radicals in my time, but more left than right. That’s due largely to the fact that i lived in a large university town for about a decade. I ran into a lot of college idiots who thought their feelings equated to facts. They also tend to run in packs with their likeminded idiot friends.
Every time i met some white trash racist jack*ss, he or she was alone. For good reason, i’m sure. We have a long way to go before the dipsh*ts on the left admit that their thoughts and behaviors are equally gross and unacceptable. Then people will give them the pariah treatment too when they refuse to keep their hateful and ignorant rhetoric to themselves.

It’s like being around normal people until politics get brought up and then you remember that your definition of “human” is different from their definition and you feel a part of you die a little bit

Same as anyone else for the most part. They're definitely less flakey and more honest but they can be pretty stubborn. I wouldn't say they're any more or less judgmental than libs just that theirs tends to be a bit more fair.

Like if you say something that a liberal thinks sounds racist or exist or something they'll just cut you off right there, talk a bunch of shit behind your back and do everything they can to ruin your life.

A conservative person will kind of wait to confirm their suspicion and keep their opinion to themself unless they feel very strongly.

A lot of it is a difference in ideology about what respecting your fellow human means

Are we talking on line or in person? Online your going to run into the vocal minority that can be pretty toxic, in person, it's not different then being around anyone else, same thing holds true for leftist, in person experience it going to be different then the toxicity you experience from the vocal minority online.

They're typically friendlier, but if they're hardcore Conservatives, they're just as bad as Liberals. But, this mainly applies to the US and Quebec. Pretty much everywhere else, it is Conservatives who are assholes and Liberals who are friendly.
