Do you think there is something about the way parents raise their kids that make them successful, such as the Asian and Jewish groups in the U. S?

I would say Asian groups and Jewish groups are both cultures that focus a lot of moral didacticism towards their children when they are young, as well as the idea that nobody is going to feel sorry for you and take care of you, because believing nobody will take care of you or feel sorry for you, makes you work 20 times harder then those who believe they have a safety net to rely on if they fail, that might be one of the things that push progress in these groups. In Chinese families, your parent is your accountability partner, your adversary, and your judge, not your protector or your supporter. My family would criticize me 300 times a day when I was a kid, that is why I am so civil and polite in public and why I always follow the rules.

I do. My wife is Asian and Asian parents are harsh. She's 35 and they're still tough on her. She like you in public, very polite and follows rules. It's great in a lot of ways but I think the Asian way can lead to a lot of insecurities, from my observations. I was tough on my kids until 18 and then I backed off and none of them have ever been unemployed and they were all homeowners in their mid 20s. They all paid for their university/college education on their own. Being tough on kids and pushing them makes it easier for them to be a successful adult

I used to watch some parents try to push their kids. "how will you get into Harvard with grades like this?" and the parents trying to make their kids pro athletes were even more ridiculous. As a result the kids would always rebel. One kid that my son knew was the assistant manager at the Burger King where my son worked when he was in college.
I supported my kids and gave them everything they needed to succeed. They all went to college. They did not go to ivy league school which are a joke today but they all went to good schools and majored in something that would be in demand once they graduated.
