There will always be a few rare people who thrive without support and maybe even become greater in their field (not necessarily as people) than they would have if they had good parents. But the vast majority will suffer. I think if you have good parents you live in a rich country where nobody has to suffer you'll be more stable and well balanced as a person but you might not have the drive to be the best in the world at something. It's complicated.

I'm very glad for the support I've recieved. I think the love my mother gave me as a child was very important in making me a person who doesn't need outside validation and attention. There's no emptiness inside me that I need to fill with something. I don't have any addictions. My general mood is very peaceful and optimistic.

In the right circumstances a mental health problem can be used to drive someone further than any well balanced person would go and that can be an advantage but to build a good society you need stability and without support it won't happen. You need love and stability to flourish.

I think it's very important. Kids who get encouragement and support tend to excel and surpass what they thought they were capable of accomplishing.
Kids who do not get encouragement or support have low self esteem, don't do well in school, and wind up with loser friends, which often gets them in trouble. They rarely excel life because they doubt their capabilities.

It's crucial... but children are different... lol

so sometimes full support creates a motivated and successful person and sometimes a lazy couch warmer :D

and from another perspective... some kids without any support do great, and some are broken at the start...

So I would say... all is well in moderation... support - yes but with making own mistakes and bearing the consequences still in safe environment...

100% necessary. And I don’t care what feminism claims…. Children need BOTH mom and dad.
Anyone with children today cannot only let the school system raise your kid. You need to teach at home too. Morals need to come from mom and dad, if you want them to excel you need to work with math and science with your kids…. History too because schools don’t teach history.

I think it depends on the child. Someone who driven and motivated can become successful despite lack of support from their parents, where as others who have been given all the chances in the world don't care, and end up never knowing where their next meal is coming from!

Absolutely. I've been the child in both circumstances. Before my mother deployed, she was an awesome and supportive but firm mother. When she returned, she was a raging alcoholic who could care less.

I think it’s very important. Of course there are people who can make it without it and there are people who become spoiled/entitled and don’t make it all, but in general yes.

In my opinion, the most important support from parents is financial support and then support in the form of giving permission for the activities we want to do.

I would say yes. Supporting a kid for their successes as a parent is a very good thing, even when they reach adulthood. Encouraging and praising hard work is important.

While it is possible to pursue one’s dreams on one’s own and it’s good to believe in yourself, having someone believe in you can make a great difference than if it’s just you alone.

well depends on what you mean by ''support''.

Some parent view support as keeping them safe, fed and motivating them others just give money other show more love you get me?

Wasn't in my regard. They just shoved a massive pile of skills on my brother and I and then when we turned 18 told us good luck and good bye

As a child, yes. The motivation and expectation applied to a child can make a lot of a difference.

There will always be self starters who are destined for success. But for everyone else, it matters.

Not necessary cause I had zero support and I'm still successful, but it's still very important for child's mental wellbeing.

It's essential. But not complete support. Parents are supposed to support you, but also guide you, and they shouldn't support you if you do something that will obviously be stupid.

Parenting is infinitely important. Not sure what “parent support” means. But being a good parent and instilling ideas of success is essential.
