The Public Information Office reports the arrest of a Suffolk County man for Driving While Intoxicated that occurred on Friday, December 12, 2025 at 4:44 a. m. in Seaford..

According to police, a 31-year-old male was operating a 2024 Ford Bronco northbound in the southbound lanes when he struck a 2026 International Harvester Garbage Truck.

After a thorough investigation, Officer Dominick Milazzo, 31, was placed under arrest without incident for Driving While Intoxicated. Milazzo, an off-duty Nassau County Police Officer was driving his personal vehicle. He was transported by a Nassau County Police Department Ambulance to a local hospital for minor injuries.. The investigation is ongoing.

Defendant Milazzo is charged with Driving While Intoxicated and numerous driving infractions. He will be arraigned when medically practical.

Another "good guy" with a gun and a badge. Do police departments post help wanted adds on prison billboards? Is their policy to only hire the guys who flunk police academy and the drug / alcohol tests.

Beyond property liability for the dump truck and whatever criminal penalties he gets for the DUI, he should definitely never be allowed to carry a gun and badge again, anywhere. Maybe he can get a job on a garbage truck.

There should be a national database for bad cops so they can't go somewhere else and get another cop job.

We all need to drink more as passengers... if this guy can survive a head on collision with a truck, then being flexible and mellow is the answer.

The officer in question is henceforth on the official naughty list. Everyone can be thankful he didn't murder them or someone they know. Let us pray... because others today will not be so fortunate.

Is judge and jury I'd assess what caused this situation and then put in place corrective action and remediation. Bottom line,

he can no longer purchase or consume alcohol

He gets therapy to figure out what the H is the problem and it gets solved. Until then, he is not working.

Cops are people too. I work in bars and restaurants. You'd be surprised how many judges, police, federal agents, politicians, lawyers etc drive home absolutely tanked. Generally local authorities look the other way, the only cop that i know of that ever got caught was caught because he was going to his girlfriend's place out of the local jurisdiction.

Teachers are also major offenders.

As long as he didn't hurt anyone I'm guessing he will be put in an AA program and the charges will be thrown out on successful completion. But they do that with the general public too.

If I were the judge I'd set the fine at 2500, 4 months of jail and, loss of license for 3 months from release followed by 8 months of having an interlock or whatever the max is if it has to be counted starting from conviction.

Let the town suspend him with pay while they spend the next however long deciding to fire him. He'll be fine.

The penalty should include fines, 100 hours of community service, DUI school, 4 month suspension of driver's license. File proof in increased risk insurance.
For 10 years, if you are caught with 0.01 or over blood alcohol, it is a second DUI offense.
The police department should suspend him from driving for a year.

I say that this case will never go to trial. The cop will get a pass. I am surprised he was arrested at all.

@DryGermanGuy Yes, I remember a few years ago a study was dine in the state to see how many citations the cops are issued. Tre number was zero. And I know for a fact that the cops drive like mainiacs.

Yeah, he probably will be. And I guess there's some justice in that. But really, this is probably a man with a pretty serious alcohol disorder. And I think if he was to get treatment for it and stay sober for, say, six months or a year, they should let him come back to the police department or wherever it is he wants to go. Maybe just to do desk work or something for quite a while. But not totally trashing.
