There are some people out there who say homosexuality was removed as a mental illness from the DSM5 for political reasons. Where’s the proof for that?

There are some people who say the earth is flat, the pyramids were built by extraterrestrials, all sorts of nonsense. It was classified as a mental illness reflecting the intolerance of the society where it was written. But a mental illness has negative consequences, and homosexuality does not.

I have heard some people say it’s a mental illness but I think it’s mostly just religious people who say that. Their religion says homosexuality is a sin so they just assume homosexual people are mentally ill since it goes against their religion
