I don't care if you love or hate Trump. That's not what this question is about.
Anyone born after Jan. 1st 2026 is eligible to recieve a one time 1000 dollar in an S&P Trump investment account from Uncle Sam
I've said for many years that they've wanted to replace social security by privatizing it. I believe the Safe Harbor Act was the first foray into that. And this is just the latest step up in that direction. Now in the "BBB Act" though it is slated to begin the 4th of July 2026, the "seed money" is also slated to stop on dec. 31st 2028. So the next elected president will have to decide whether to continue the pilot program or not.
Now I'm not against this program per se. Rough estimates show it'll save social security 75 billion dollars a year. That cuts current social security costs in half. But it'll take the next 67 years. For it to reach that full potential. And that's ONLY relevant if the program is not changed and people do not cash out of it. This is WHY social security exists in the first place, IT'S A SAFETY NET! We can argue about what the original intent of social security was. Some will say it was NEVER designed to be for retirement. That it was always supposed to be supplemental. And I haven't even mentioned disability. If you were so inclined as to keep your money in this investment account there is no guarantee you don't end up hurt and disabled and have to dip into it. Again, this is why social security disability exists, IT'S A SAFETY NET! Again I'm not against this part of the BBB Act per se (i like anything that pumps the stock market more). I just see definite holes in this plan.

If parents can, I can see most parents closing that account in the first year. It's free money and free money never lasts long compared to money earned.
No, they cannot. And while you can add up to 5k a year to it the holder of the account cannot even withdraw any till 18 years. of age.
I think that putting your money into anything with Trump's name on it, his financial suicide and it's likely to be a scam.
I think that was his goal but not sure if it will happen
