There are resources the US must have to move forward. If the US stop trading with other countries or all the other countries stop trading with US , the US economy would fail. We depend on other countries buying our debt , if they stop , all that comes home and causes Hyper -Inflation. The US could survive a depression , we could not survive Hyper-Inflation. There is no one big enough to bail US out.

If US loses Reserve Currency , US can no longer just print money out of thin air. We would lose it because of no trade between US and other countries.

So it sounds great , US all on its own. no need for other countries and we make everything and keep it all state side. It will never happen and we can't do it. Companies can't expand Markets and grow especially because couples are not have kids any longer. That means they can only hire a finite amount of people. Also there will be no need for dock workers with no imports or exports. No need for ships. You won;t need as many trucks or drivers. UPS and FED EX would have to leave US. Small Businesse would go under. Walmart would close 75% of their stores. How would Amazon stay in business? Unemployment would be 50% .

It is a world economy today hate it or love it. US started trading with other countries in 1778 , which is why the US grew and got wealthier.

America would fail

We would survive but no growth

It would be a 2 pronged economic assault that would easily bring down the USA without firing a shot.

• Canada, the UK, the EU, China, and India simply stop trading with the USA.
• China, Canada, Japan, the UK, and the EU dump all of their US debt and refuse to buy US treasury bills.

The other players don't really get hurt much. They form new trading relationships and go on trading amongst each other while excluding the USA.

Meanwhile US debt skyrockets and we are unable to borrow. Hyper inflation kicks in. The economy goes into a depression as every asset class tanks at the same time. And best of all, the 1% get wiped out because they have hoarded all the assets. The US would become another Russia within a decade. The final superpower to collapse under it's own arrogance.

The war may end up being an economic fight because a military conflict makes no sense. So just sidestep US military might and attack our weakness rather than our strength.

Those who don't learn lessons from history are doomed to repeat those mistakes. In the 1920s the economy was humming along and as soon as the economy started showing cracks, Congress passed the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930 which raised tariffs to protect the American worker. Just like the Great Depression, the US will recover but it will be at least a decade.

Yes the USA relies on foreign trade. We should either cut off hostile adversaries (China, NorK,) or make them friends we toppled (Germany, Japan and soon, Venezuela).

We have the economic power to buy other countries with trade except a few who culturally obsessively hate us.

We will buy Iran after we exile their Theocracy.

We can seduce Egypt Turkiye and Pakistan away from becoming teetering Theocracies.

We are already making "payments" on India.

Next: Russia. They always wanted to be us anyway.

Weve been trading to our disadvantage for decades now. Europe has had tariffs on American goods for quite skme time now. You ever see any American cars on European roads? No because the Germans have it all down uo with VW.

How about China, the US has virtually no manufacturered goods in china. The Chinese subsidise their own industries backed by cheap labor while refusing any competition from abroad, they buy up foreign companies to sell their goods through shutting most of the factories down or shuttering the factories all together.
