It's not the SAVE AMERICA ACT, it's the SAVE act, an acronym for Safeguard American Voter Eligibility.

I am FOR it, as are most Americans. 70% of Democrats and 95% of Republicans are for photo I'd to vote, which is a key part of the act, along with having to prove you are a US citizen in order to register to vote.

Those who complain about it are blowing smoke. The act contains the same requirements as the requirements to get a REAL ID drivers license, which is what TSA requires to board a plane, and which every state in the country now requires.

In the state of MN, a Real ID does NOT require proof of citizenship, only proof of residency.

If the SAVE act doesn't require proof of citizenship (social security #) it doesn't solve any potential voter fraud.

2 - People voting for someone else

Nowhere in the constitution does it give the feds the power to create a voter ID law. All elections are to be controlled by the states. If the Republicans want to "save America," they should probably read that document they claim they love so much.

Honestly though, all states should require this. If you need an ID to get a bank account. You should need an ID to vote. Now if the dems wanted to repeal the KYC laws, I'd change my mind on supporting voter ID laws.

The constitution was written by humans just like you. They had opinions, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have them. If they said you can’t eat pizza it doesn’t mean you can’t think they were wrong.
The problem with State idea is that it doesn’t have anything to do with you being eligible to vote by being a citizen of the United States. Anybody can get state ID or a drivers license without being a citizen in the United States. Many states will automatically register to vote just because you got ID. It’s illegal for you to vote in the United States and yet you could still do it. Federal voter ID should absolutely prove you have the right to vote in the United States.

Yes, only a small percentage of fraud has been detected... because only the questionable votes/voters get checked in an audit. No one checks the votes/voters that appear to be valid. In today's world, it's very easy to create very realistic forged documents.

I'm not saying fraud is rampant, but to say it's rare is not really correct either.

Anything that helps reduce the possibility of fraud in election is a good idea, which most people support.

It’s a fact that all polls show that 75% + are for voter ID. Very few want people voting multiple times or voting when they shouldn’t.
We have to show ID to get a library card, by alcohol, rent a car, and so on. The list is long. Now I would say (my opinion) voting for who is going to run our country is more important than all those things above.

This is just another way to essentially retro-actively inflict a policy designed to impede those who will have difficulty providing the proper ID, especially when red states will intentionally delay requests for paperwork. They've already proven this is what they do.

Thank God! Not sure about other states, but in MN, a REAL ID does not require proof of citizenship. In fact, when I got my Enhanced Driver's License, they rejected my Social Security card as it had been separated from the sheet that it originally came on. They also informed me that any laminated Social Security cards were rejected as well.

That’s not entirely accurate. YOU didn’t have to produce a birth certificate or passport to get a Real ID, most likely because your documentation was already in order. If you tell me that you’re an illegal immigrant and they just handed you a Real ID for the asking, that would be a bold statement. The fact is that you have shown your government multiple validating documents for years or even decades. When they check that paper trail you check out. No need for further proof. If you request that ID, but there is little to no evidence of you in the system, they probably look a little closer. When i got my Real ID from my home state, they sent it to me in the mail just because i requested it when i renewed. When i went to get a new driver’s license in another state, they didn’t have ages of documentation on me. So i had to produce more documentation to satisfy their requirements. Minnesota might be different, but since the second state in my experience was California, it would blow my mind to think that they’re tougher than any other state in the country.

I provided my Birth Certificate after being told my Social Security card didn't meet the requirements.

The problem I forsee is that a Green Card is an acceptable form of citizenship document to get a REAL ID. But a green card holder can't vote in federal elections. If REAL ID's are the document needed to register to vote, then green card holders will be able to register to vote.

The Social Security # must be tied to whatever ID is used for voting registration. Otherwise there is no assurances that only citizens are able to vote.

Those aren't federal elections. Those are state elections. They are for federal office, but they are state elections. Other than the basic constitutional requirements for office, the feds can't tell the states how to run their elections.

@sage2021 That depends on local and state law. Most sates have the same rules for federal elections as for local and state elections, because it's hard to manage two separate election systems on the same election day, and expensive to have them on separate dates.

In other words, if a person can vote in a federal election, they can also vote in state and local elections, but not the other way around.
