When you take the oath of office, military or civilian government, you swear to uphold the Constitution for a reason. Currently true, but it wasn't always true. The current constitution is not what founded the country. But patriotism goes beyond that. If patriotism means throwing away the Constitution, then so be it. The Constitution should never have been made in the first place. Not all of the founders supported it. Some were strongly opposed to it. There was a reason for that.

We would have been better off staying a confederation like was originally intended. Instead of creating a federation, they could have modified the Articles to address problems as they arose.

The Constitution is about the **Federal** government. The original country didn't even have a federal government because it wasn't a federation. The original government barely deserves to be called a government at all, because it was almost non-existent. None of that means it wasn't a country.

A country is basically any entity that is declared a country, ideally recognized by other countries as such.

In this case, the United States is a country. The United States was a country before the Constitution was enacted. It was recognized as such and had diplomatic ties with other countries. Many of the founders were against the Constitution and strongly opposed ratification, Patrick Henry and Samuel Adams being at the forefront against the Constitution.

We wouldn't have a Bill of Rights if not for the people opposed to the Constitution. The Bill of Rights was largely passed to placate the people against ratification. The tenth amendment in particular was meant to limit the power of the central government.

In hind site, the people against the Constitution were right. The things they warned about came to pass. The central government became far more than was intended. The states all but lost their sovereignty. The federal government has been on a power grab since the beginning. The tenth amendment is the most important amendment, but it is completely ignored.
