I believe the people who lash out at other people who have a different opinion or say things they don’t like are probably weak minded

Free speech us not free unless it allows speech that people don't agree with.

It's important to clarify though...

Free speech does not mean a person can say or do whatever they want without consequences. You can't stop them from saying or doing things, but they can be prosecuted if, for example, they commit libel or threaten someone with harm.

Believe it or not, there was actually a time in America not so long ago when Americans could disagree with each other, even passionately, about politics or anything else, WITHOUT FEELING THEY HAVE TO KILL EACH OTHER! That is called civil discourse, and we need that back again, badly. Today people tend to feel that anyone who could disagree with them must necessarily be EVIL! The next step from that is saying that that "evil" person has no right to disagree and therefore no right to live! This is tragic as well as disgraceful and unacceptable! This is where you get people shooting each other, assassinating presidents, getting into riots, etc. It also leads to a lot of slanderous lying about politicians and others we disagree with. THERE IS SUPPOSED TO BE SOMETHING CALLED THE RULE OF LAW, everyone! No one gets to be judge, jury and executioner all rolled into one! People have a RIGHT to their opinions, so long as they grant you the same right! That's how it's supposed to work in this country! Democrats boycotting the State of the Union message? That is unacceptable, and shows no respect for the office the President holds! Even worse was Nancy Pelosi's DISGRACEFUL AND DESPICABLE tearing up of the State of the Union message during Trump's first presidency! You act civilized. You don't DO things like that! You don't like a particular president? That's okay. But you treat the office with due respect. You don't like him, vote him out next time. But that civilized respect is something that I would absolutely DEMAND!

Mostly, but i don’t believe that freedom of speech is absolute. There are things for which there should be consequences for saying, and some consequences should be harsher than others. But i don’t want comedians cancelled because i don’t like their jokes. I don’t think my coworker should be fired if he criticizes my work.

Yes within the confines of the legal system that determines what is acceptable free speech versus what may infringe on other people's legally defined rights not to be offended etc :)

Yes, but there is a line between free speech and hate speech. And you're free to believe anything you like. But the minute you start sharing those beliefs be prepared to have those beliefs challenged voiciferously. If you cannot handle that, then maybe you should just keep those beliefs to yourself.👍
