It is common here in the U. S. because it is way less expensive than burial.

Personally, I would like to be wrapped in a cotton shroud and buried in the ground to decay and compost. I would like a headstone. And plant a flowering tree over me so that my remains can nourish and become part of the beautiful living organism.
No embalming, no makeup, no suit.

Fuck grave liners and expensive coffins. The idea of turning into coffin liquor inside of a sealed box is creepy.
And I don't even see the need to be turned to ash.
Those are stupid, wasteful traditions.

It’s the norm in my religion. I don’t see the purpose of preserving the body in any manner after death, so it’s always made the most sense to me.


I have heard that Abrahamic religions believe that dead bodies will rise on a “judgement day” and that’s why they’re buried according to that logic, but I really think that tradition of burial was started because these religions originated in the desert where wood was scarce, so cremation would be a waste of that resource.

i prefer it to being buried. it's also cheaper and i'm all for whatever the cheapest way to get rid of my corpse

A biologic body isn't more than water, minerals and proteins. The essence of life is potences smaller than subatomic level, it doesn't care if molecules it inhabited before will oxidize or even atoms of the body it used will be disolved in hadrons and gluons. When we are alive we are present in electromagnetic universe but the source of our existence lies in much smaller structures even below quantum effects level.

So the fear of people who are afraid of being cremated like my father to lose body in afterlife is naive. Body will disapear anyway due rotting.

Cremation rates in the US have been rising. When I was young it was not common, but I wouldn't call it rare either. Now it's the majority and rising. It's common to pour the ashes someplace out in nature, like in the ocean or a river.

For quite a while now some cemeteries would only accept cremated remains because they were running out of room.

i don't have much of an opinion about it for people in general, but for myself and for loved ones i prefer burial. there's something unsettling about for ex a family member being turned to ashes. there's nothing left of them, i don't think even dna survives cremation. at least with a squeleton there's something left.

and in both my countries (france & us), it's very normal and common. i think probably because it's a lot cheaper than inhumation

I think its a good thing. In europian cities there's a big problem with graveyards, since our cities were not build for so many people. Graveyards are very small there's are grave right next to each other, even some ayles were cancelled to just fit in more graves. Cremation fixes this problem

It's more or less the default option. Return to the world by fire as ash. It's also most cost effective short of donating your body.

I'm for being a cadaver bythe way. help future doctors then throw me away in the dumpster but if it helps people sleep you can cremate me. My last 2 cents to help Water cremation. As it's eco-friendly but more expensive they could use my body as an experiment to bring cost down. win win.

I'm from the US where cremation is becoming more popular for several reasons. Mostly is cost, the other is the fact we are running out of land necessary to have and support a cemetery

It's common in the US. Some of my relatives were cremated when they died. I have arranged to be cremated when I die.

It’s very common in the uk, I think when your spirit has left the vessel it was in for that period. It doesn’t matter what we do with the vessel. It’s now no longer required

Creepy. I can't imagine myself being turned to ashes. My mom wants to be cremated. The thought of spreading her ashes is extremely disturbing to me
