Some people say that they cannot even rent a room or eat well. Why?
- 7.4K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
3 moIt depends. If you have good family support, you are ok.
If you don't, you are in a tough spot. Govt gives $ and such, but can be tough. If you are really poor... you are better off then being just above that level. Those people are completely stuck because they have to work to pay for everuthing but don't have the resources, support. They are more like a cat trying not to fall down an aluminum roof with their claws. It's just awful.
Many cannot find an affordable place to live in my area... because it's stupid expensive... due to inflationary policies under primarily Obama possibly caused by Bush and Clinton... but still... massive money printing. It showed up and people struggle.
And then there's' those with savings and money and they are doing well...
In general, bad choices lead to suffering... like, I know a guy whom got his wife pregnant but couldn't handle it all... so divorce. so now, she's out of the house and struggling with the kid and he has his govt paid apt. He's suffering and struggling now to. He is the result of other peoples bad decisions and traingings. It just goes on and on like that and so trying to fix his offspring will be one hell of a project.
Cycles of destruction.

3 moThose people are almost exclusively too lazy to work, spend too much on wholly unnecessary crap, and feel entitled to things that they haven’t earned.
It’s actually really easy to get by inexpensively. All these young people just want to get paid a million dollars a minute to stare at their phones all day. They look at fake social media profiles and believe that they are owed the money to buy the most expensive cars & name brand fashions, party on top shelf liquors, take month long tropical vacations, and live in billion dollar mansions.
I WORKED AND STUDIED hard to get a good job making $150k/year in a viable industry. If i look at my phone AT ALL during my shift and it’s not break time, i just glance at it for the time of day. I live on about $40k. I still waste a lot of money on frivolous crap and save about $40k/year.
I drive an affordable vehicle that gets great fuel mileage. I rent affordable places. I buy affordable clothes. I know my budget and i live within my means. All it takes is a little bit of smarts and a fair bit of discipline.00 Reply

10 Reply831 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. What I found out by traveling around a bit is that every place has its own scale but they all even out
Which means it’s economically hard to live anywhere in the world if you’re poor and don’t have good income
Just like it’s advantageous to live anywhere if you’re rich and make good money
The place itself doesn’t matter
Who you are and what you do does
There’s no place that’s marginally easier than another
But there are places better suited for certain occupations04 Reply- 3 mo
Well Zack, this is quite a bit of nonsense. " There’s no place that’s marginally easier than another ". Of course there are. How many places in the USA have you lived in? I've lived in 5 in the USA alone, from New York City to rural towns in Wisconsin, and 3 other places in Europe. It absolutely DOES make a difference where you live, and what the economy of the area is like.
" But there are places better suited for certain occupations" - Obviously, but that still doesn't address costs of living in individual places. For example: If you work at home as a customer service rep for a company and you earn $40,000 a year, you'll survive more easily in Decatur, IL than in Houston, TX. - 3 mo
You’re making my point for me
What you do makes the difference
An IT guy is better off living in Silicon Valley
While a mechanical engineer might fight more success in Detroit
That’s to give generalized examples based on US cities
But you can apply the same logic world wide
If you’re a DJ in Ibiza you’ll have a nicer time than a DJ in a small town in the UK
And that same logic applies to every place and profession
The bottom line is: life isn’t easy of hard JUST based on where you live but also on what you do - 3 mo
I made no such point for you. An IT guy living in Silicon Valley WILL need to make a vast amount of money more than an IT guy living in Decatur, IL to afford the same level of living. And since there are way fewer IT guys living in Decatur, IL, he can command a greater salary because he's more in demand. There are a million IT guys in Silicon valley.
So your assessment is incorrect. If you're living barely over the poverty level, or what you're calling poor, there are definitely better places to be than others. Where you live is INDEED a factor on the quality and ease or difficulty of your life if you compare identical professions. This isn't really debatable, dude. - 3 mo
You’re right it’s not debatable. Because you’re dead wrong.
There’s no market for IT in Decatur IL like there is in Silicon Valley.
So while you have no competition there’s no also no demand.
The market rule applies to make it a bad place to be working IT.
The size and location of different industries decides which field of work is advantageous where and not the other way around
And your level of living is entirely dependent on being in a place that pays well for your field of choice

3 moThe living standards in the US are not as hard as people make them out to be. We have tons of technology and conveniences, which people did not have in the past that make life extremely easier in a lot of ways. That's why obesity and laziness are rampant in society. The more technology and innovations advance, the less work humans have to do. HOWEVER, it is a fact that income has not kept up with housing prices and that affects how much we're able to afford. Food, living spaces, recreation... people definitely have to be smarter with their money nowadays than in the past.

3 moThe standard of living for the middle class has been under assault and sliding downhill for about 40 years. Wealth inequality has wiped out much of the US middle class. So yeah, people today are looking at a life that is worse than what their parents experienced and what they remember from their own childhood. It's a new experience for the US middle class population. The American Dream is ending.

3 moPeople always complain. They always want more money. In truth, wages have been going up faster than rent.
People say they can't afford to rent or buy a house, but it's not true. That's because the ONLY way for housing to go up in price is if people can afford it. It's self adjusting, and prices will always reflect what people can afford.010 Reply- 3 mo
That's a really ignorant boomer take. Shows how out of touch you are with reality.

Apparently you think some YouTube video is more reliable than the official numbers. Some dude on YouTube can anything they want. Doesn't mean a thing. - 3 mo
@WindAtMyBack It's not hard to Google it nowadays and find the info in 2 seconds. Every source indicates it's accurate, yet even provided with info right in front of your face, you'll deny it. That is the epitome of ignorance, and you're just further proving my statement.
- 3 mo
@HawkPerception
Like I said, I used the official numbers. - 3 mo
@WindAtMyBack You never said that once. And unless you can show me a credible source, it's pretty obvious to see you're talking out of your ass.
- 3 mo
@HawkPerception
OK, I implied it. I said "Apparently you think some YouTube video is more reliable than the official numbers" - 3 mo
For the record I used wage increases from the SSA. It's the same one they use to calculate Social Security increases. For rent, I used the federal reserve numbers.
- 3 mo
YouTube videos are almost always based on real statistics. People don't usually put in the effort to create a video and show fake graphs and statistics. They are almost always from reputable sources. It's only Boomer thinking that YouTube is a completely unreliable source of information. And if you're doubtful of the information's source, you can always Google the stats from reputable sources.
- 3 mo
@HawkPerception
WTF. I DID use reliable sources. I said it twice. If a YouTuber used a reliable source, then it should be easy enough to check that source. A YouTuber might be right, or they might not. But why would you take their word for it when it's easy enough to check for yourself? - 3 mo
I do check myself. Videos just tend to organize thoughts to get a message across. I almost always validate the info
1.1K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Usually when people get online and complain, there are things they could do to not be in such financial hardships but they never mention that in their little speeches on social media, nor do they want to think about ways to change their financial picture.

@HawkPerception thanks for proving my point.
- 3 mo
Are you ignoring the evidence that income has not kept up with housing prices? Are you really that ignorant? If someone told you they're living in a depression and it's a fact, would you just say "Think about ways to change your financial picture."?
- 3 mo
@HawkPerception So you don't want to think, you want to be mad. And that's fine. But again, I'll say it... if you feel you can't afford to live in this economy, there are choices you can make to alleviate some of that financial pressure.
- 3 mo
Oh boy. You're a real Einstein, aren't ya? Someone's giving you evidence of the changes in the economy, and all you can respond with is "So you don't want to think. You want to be mad." What part of what I said indicates I'm mad and not thinking? What a low IQ response.
- 3 mo
@HawkPerception I understand changes in the economy. And what I said from the start was that often people complaining can make lifestyle changes to make things affordable. You've provided nothing to contradict that.

No. An awful lot of people dont know how good they have and mostly create any problem they have.
10 Reply2.3K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. That depends on what part of the country you live in. Here in Southern California near the coast, the first house I rented was $800 a month over 20 years ago. Now if I want to rent a house that size it's between $3,000 and $4000 a month, and that's at the lower end of the scale
00 Reply11.7K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. The average rent is around 2 grand a month, which is usually 40 to 60% of a person's monthly income. Plus utilities are rising in costs, as are foods, gas, medicine etc.
00 Reply6.4K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Because as in many developed countries there is a housing shortage in many cities, and the local wages for unskilled or semi-skilled work don't pay enough to rent local housing.
