When talking about a subject some people tend to write random words in capital letters. For example they would write something like “it is NOT” instead of just “it is not.”

I don’t see how putting random words in capital letters automatically makes or means a person is right about a certain subject. It’s just capital letters.

It's just emphasis. It's been used to represent shouting in e-mails and UseNet for decades. Before all the 21st century formatting like bold and italic. You *can* do /other/ things to emphasise without it looking like SHOUTING!

It doesn’t, but sometimes people feel the need to SHOUT in text or online conversations. You do you, but I think for the most part, it’s usually unnecessary.

You are right it does not prove anything to capitalize words.

In spoken conversation I might emphasize 'not'. In written I can do that by bolding or underlining or putting in italics but... buggar it all... I don't have those options in this reply.

So I might use NOT for emphasis instead.

It's not meant to infer the writer is "right". It's meant to emphasize a word as you would if you were speaking to someone and wanted to emphasize that word. Do you speak in a monotone voice all the time?

OBVIOUSLY putting certain words in all caps DOES make a person RIGHT. WHY ELSE would they DO it? And you can TELL I'm RIGHT because of my use of CAPITALS peppered throughout my text.

It's just emphasis. The way I see it is if the person you're talking to is STUPID. It won't matter whether you type in capital letters or not. But it does let the reader know the word (s) you're emphasizing just in case they aren't stupid.
