What misconceptions and bias do they have that sometimes lead them to being blocked? Like for example if they have an intellectual disability that’s mild.
6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I don't know what kind of mental disability you're talking about.
I picture a girl/women who is mentally slow but is horny, wants to kiss, feel a man's hands on her body, longs to be ravished and get freaky. It would be fun to hook up and use her like a sex toy. But, in the end, using her like that just for sex might feel like taking advantage.04 Reply
Asker4 moBut what if she passes sexual consent sex? Is it still taking advantage?
Asker4 moYeah you’re right why do some people think differently?

Asker4 moEven if they can consent to sex?
- 4 mo
The question becomes one of 'knowledge of consent' and what that means to a mentally disabled person. I know of a really nice girl working at Albertson's market where I shop. She is an attractive girl, but I was told that she is somewhat 'mentally challenged' and I don't know what the extent of her 'challenge' is. Example: one evening, cold, windy, I saw her getting on a bicycle to ride home, and I really was concerned about her safety and was going to ask if I might load her bicycle in my Blazer and drive her to her home. I was in fear of asking because I did not know how she would interoperate my offer. Hard question to answer because it would depend on the extent of her disablement and if she understood the implication of her having sex with somone.
Asker4 moWhat if they understood the implication of having sex with someone?
Asker4 moDepends on the explicit circumstances like what?

I would most certainly would not have sex with a woman who did not seem able to give informed consent. It is enough for a rape charge anyway.
At the other end, I have no objection to a woman who is less than smart. I am far more interested in her personal qualities than intellectual abilities.
In between I'd draw a line if she was unable to have a conversation and had no social skills.
I wouldn't have problem with an IQ of 90 but probably would at 80.04 Reply
Asker4 moWhy would you have a problem with a woman of an iq of 80? What if the phycologist said she can give consent to sex?
- 4 mo
It would more revolve around social abilities. At that level it seems that there are socializing issues. It is also an area that I am not good at. I can compensate on financial matters but not in the social sphere and I am best having a partner that compensates for me in that area.
I am just putting some hooks up so don't take the IQ #s that seriously.
Asker4 moIt would revolve about social abilities how?
- 4 mo
If I am attending a social where I don't know any one than I find that awkward. More social people than I am would break the ice and get people talking to each other. Whilst I have learnt social skills they don't come naturally to me and if there are more than 4 people I tend to shut up.
So a partner who is naturally social is an advantage to me.
455 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Because it’s hard for people that don’t have mental disabilities to understand someone that does have mental disabilities and unfortunately there is a lot of negative things that can occur from it , especially if they both don’t truly understand each other , I was in a relationship with a girl that suffered from bi polar depression, ADHD etc. and sadly to say it was the worst relationship I ever experienced because she would change on me like a flip of a switch , one minute she was loving and caring towards me and then out of nowhere she treated me like garbage and started putting me down and hating my guts, the relationship wasn’t healthy whatsoever because I always had a question mark over my head about whether she loved me or not , I had no peace it was constant back and fourth drama , so I dumped her crazy ass and started dating girls’ that didn’t suffer from any mental illness and it’s been way better
00 Reply682 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. What is a mild intellectual disorder to you? In my head that means this person would not understand most things.
If, I glanced at other comments, this is something like autism that isn't much of an intellectual disorder. There is increasingly disappearing evidence of any cognitive deficiencies in people with autism. In truth it appears autistic people might be slightly more intelligent.11 Reply- 4 mo
But they are emotionally divergent and this could easily cause relationship issues. There are intelligent people who are emotionally immature. People who are intellectually slow who can be quite loving. When anything is too far off from the average, it's likely there will be some problems.
It's all according to IF you can deal with said problems.
871 opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. i don't think intelligence matters for sex, particularely if the 'slow' one is a woman. if people don't want to sleep with you after hearing that it's that they're imagining something much more dramatic when you say intellectual disability. my advice would be to not mention that. it's sex, they don't need to know.

Asker4 moYou are right it doesn’t matter!! Then why do some people say they can’t consent to sex when it’s not true?
I think a lot of people avoid hooking up with mentally disabled individuals because they don’t fully understand how to interact responsibly or fear unintentionally crossing boundaries.
It’s less about the person themselves and more about society’s discomfort, lack of education, and fear of accountability.
Consent, respect, and understanding are key in any relationship, but some people shy away when they feel unprepared to handle those aspects.00 Reply- 3.8K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
4 mo98% of those with mild brain injuries live independently after one year. I know disabled people who became doctors and pharmacists. I know one person who got an A+ average at U of T and graduated teacher's college even though she was disabled. I know another disabled guy who got a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Toronto. I also know a blind man who made $300 an hour. He later got eye surgery and is no longer blind.

4 moDo you mean like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder or autism? Because the former can be controlled by medication but autism not so much. It's very difficult to deal with a person who has autism even the mild version.

Oh then no if you have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder by a psychiatrist or psychologist then you probably have it. Have you been diagnosed by them with it?

You probably should get one more doctor opinion on it and see what they say.

2.4K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Whether somebody is "mentally disabled" or not is not always the issue, it's how somebody interacts with people. I've met plenty of people who were not "mentally disabled" but had no social skills and never found a girlfriend, boyfriend, whatever

Because most girls don't want to be a care worker and we have to consider our own safety.

But in seriousness. It's hard because a lot of people misunderstand what they experience your actions as vs what the intentions behind them are already without having a condition that kinda adds another layer to the equation.
So you have to do a lot of extra work to meet them half way especially if you're not with someone who understands from experience
Anonymous(45 Plus)4 moProbably because they don't want to end up murdered cut up into little pieces and fed to someone's dog.😆
