I think many of them are not fit, such as Canada's Mark Clowney. Trump is doing as good a job as he can, but I still think the majority of these old politicians can be replaced with younger, more intelligent people, with fresh and open minds.

I don't understand why they generally choose older people as politicians. Like look at Biden. He could barely form a sentence. And Trump is not as eloquent as he used to be in his younger days either.

Age does matter. Intelligence matters. Ego matters. There are many people who I know that would do a better job than people in power. It's just that no one who has the capability wants the responsibility. Their peace is more valuable to them than that.

Luckily though, as AI progresses, it will slowly work it's way into running society.

For the US anyway, the people who reach power through the political vector are the absolute worst people you'd ever want to have said power. Currently they are put in those positions by concentrated wealth from billionaires and corporations using Political Action Committees (PACS) and lobbyist groups to funnel hundreds of millions of dollars into elections and basically buy government offices. Why does the money buy these people and these offices? They want something for that investment. And if they invest hundreds of millions, they payoff they are targeting is much much larger. It's government for sale to the highest bidder.
But then there's just the raw power of wealth. Like the 19th century banker J. P. Morgan some people just want "MORE". These people are usually sociopaths bordering on psychopaths who feel nothing about forcing millions of people into economic slavery or death so they can continue to acquire wealth for the sake of their own ego.
And then there is a subset of the warrior class. People who don't necessarily lust after wealth. They want a more direct expression of power over other people. Literal life and death power. These can also be sociopaths and psychopaths. But their particular psychopathy is war, imposing your will on others in a direct physical way. These personalities tend to do well in the Authoritarian leaning hierarchy of the military. So they end up highly placed in the command structure.
In most cases all of the groups I mentioned above have not been groomed or trained to wield power. Nor have government institutions been designed to contain and combat their naked ambition and greed.

It has been a large part of my life dealing with these people and a constant Love/Hate relationship. They tend to love people who can make things happen but, they tend to fear and hate people they can't control.

That's a hard one, because it's a yes and no along with well it wouldn't be anyway?
Elitists put those in power to full their gains so then they're qualified for that so then yes? But is it a yes for the people? Maybe not.
But let's say true democracy actually prevailed... the average are dumb and will vote in whom they like not who's necessarily qualified?
Then let's say you vote purely on merit but whom makes those merits?
And are we playing into a fallacy of only those are older are qualified? Like you can't be a boss at 20 but your IQ is 130 and you've got a better grasp of the job than the 40 with IQ95 who's only got his position through labor of 20 consistent years rather than catching on quickly to how things work like the 20 year old did within 2 years.

The resulting answer subjective, because qualified to do something is not easily defined.
But we can determine a lot do know what they're doing because if they didn't America wouldn't have lasted long, same for England or any country's government that is upholding it's status of ruling. So they're qualified people keeping it going otherwise government collapse would be happening all the time.

There is a tendency of many people to believe that someone who manages to get a job or position is qualified and competent just because they got there, but often, that's not true at all. So many people get into positions of power who have little to no track record of competency or success. Instead, they got in because they knew someone, or because they were the right color, gender, or orientation. Maybe because they have a popular or well-known name.

Leaders are just people. They aren't inherently better just because they are in the position - their results are what determines if they are competent and successful. Some leaders are extremely competent and very successful, and some are buffoons who screw up everything they touch. Usually their position has nothing to do with their track record.

NYC and several other cities have voted in people who are openly communist. And now those cities are shocked that the wealthy people are leaving, and taking their businesses and their jobs and their tax revenues with them, and that they are now raising taxes on the middle class - the same people who voted them in. Revenues are crashing, services are being cut, and the people will be paying way more. That's not really the fault of the leaders - it's the morons who voted them in.

Corporate leaders are a slightly different issue - it's often a board of directors who hires senior management, and sometimes the BoD is completely corrupt itself. There are also the toxic business models of "private equity" who make money by destroying the businesses they buy.

No I think modern politics is about scoring votes. They are qualified to rule, they are useful idiots who are only there to distract the normies & trick people into feeling like they have self governance when they don't. That's what democracy really is, a puppet show that gives cowards an excuse not to have a civil war with their government.

A great example is how in the US their founding fathers let them have guns so they would resist tyranny. Yet it turns out we now know that the elite were having their strings pulled by the Jewish supremacist Jeffrey Epstein who was representing the Rothschild.

Yet where is the armed Revolution all the Americans told me they'd have? If having child abusing cannibals to represent your establishment isn't enough for armed revolution then I don't know what is.

Some only have experience in politics and have never worked in a company or been self employed. Yet they make decisions that have a huge impact on people's professional lives, drastically opposed to what professional organisations would recommend.

If the people in power are successful in the role they are in, then they are qualified for that role.

Qualifications or certificates only help the person to obtain a job, and give confidence, they don't guarantee anything else, and certificates don't prove competence in power whether the people concerned have them or not.
