I think it's just a word that we use to denote something general, such as group of people.

Social construct can be defined as:

"any category or thing that is made real by convention or collective agreement"

Society can be defined as:

"A large social group sharing the same spatial or social territory, typically subject to the same political authority and dominant cultural expectations"

Living in a society is living with this belief that we have an invisible connection with other people around us, that the others, even if we don't know them, are from the same tribe. We live with this idea that millions of unknown strangers are similar to us. That's quite a leap of faith when you think about it. As long as this belief works, we're a society, collectively agreeing upon this idea that we belong to the same group.

Collectively agreeing upon the idea that a bank note with numbers printed on it has more value than a piece of blank paper.

At the moment that illusion, or collective insanity, breaks apart, when all bank notes are seen for what they are, just paper, then society collapses. We're back to nature. To reality. Out of social constructs.

But we can't go back to reality, because we're all teaching our kids to believe in pieces of paper. To believe that society truly exists.

"Social construct" is a recent term used to write off things without actually making an argument for or against it.

As a society, humans are social animals. Yes, we make the rules. So does every other social animal. Even loner species have their social rules.

Calling something a social construct is a meaningless statement. A social construct is an evolutionary construct.

Yes, it is something that was engineered by other people. There are constraints that must be met but societies are just something some people made up.
