5.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I don't think that's a fair assessment. After all, VP JD Vance married an ethnically Indian woman, didn't he? KY Senator Mitch McConnell is married to an Asian American woman. Their conservative bona fides are unquestionable.
However, this statement is true:
Voting Republican doesn't mean you are a racist, but, if you are a racist, then you will vote Republican.
This is because, for over 60 years, the Democratic party has been supportive of minorities and inclusiveness. So, many former racist Democrats switched to becoming "Dixiecrats" and then just jumped ship to the GOP. This is because , after the civil rights legislation of the mid-1960s, the GOP realized it was losing to the Democrats with minorities, so they deliberately attracted these disaffected racists by using subtle verbal cues reinforcing their racism. The late Lee Atwater explained it in 1981. It was called "The Southern Strategy" and was first employed during the 1968 Nixon campaign. It's what put Nixon over the top over VP Hubert Humphrey that year. Unfortunately for Humphrey, many of those disaffected racist Democrats voted for Alabama governor George Wallace who also left the Democratic party, but ran on the American Independent Party.

My brother could pass as someone without white genetics, and even though we live in a area that is 99% white and more conservative than most areas it seems like everybody likes him pretty well.

Asker2 moThe simple reason you haven't noticed it is because you think it's normal, and I think part of the reason you think it's normal is because you're one of them. None of this is a real big surprise.
Anonymous(18-24)2 moThey like to forget they are descended from immigrants and now want to tell different immigrants they're not welcome. They never care when the immigrant is from Sweden though. It must be racism...
Asker2 moWell, no, the immigrants from Scandinavia and Germany and Northern Europe in general are all white. If you're white, it's okay, and if you're white, it's right. If you're any other color, it's a problem for them.

2 moIt's wrong to make such a general statement. There are many conservatives who accept people for who they are, regardless of skin color.
There are some conservatives, some moderates and some liberals who dislike anyone not like them.
Humans cover the gamut of political, religious and racial beliefs.

Asker2 moHow are the left-wingers racists?
- 2 mo
Usually by believing that you should have discriminatory practices to balance things out.
Like "Diversity" is just a keyword for "not white" and as long as you do it to someone white its fine sort of mentalities. So if an organization excludes whites from positions to advantage the marginalized that is overt racism and its never the right wingers advocating for this but they will call it out.
Then some guy on 4chan starts a trend "Its ok to be white" to demonstrate the racism towards whites and its immediately spinned by the racists into some kind of white supremacy argument which it never was. They just can't handle that white people deserve rights and respect to, and that it can feel to them like they are discriminated against.
Then you have large orgs like CocaCola and IBM who join in on it and make anti-white presentations encouraging their employee's to "Be Less White". That again is not a right wing position at all.
Want to know what is a right wing position? All lives matter as a slogan. Not White lives matter or Black Lives Don't Matter but All Lives Matter. A very inclusive statement that everyone should be treated with respect and everyone matters regardless of race. But the left spins it again that this is supposedly racist.
So its evident. And there will be plenty of left wing people who agree with me on this one and who aren't racist at all. And there will be certain groups who get lumped in with the right that are genuinely racists. But if you go to for example a trump rally as a black person you get loved and embraced by them. The average right winger doesn't give a shit about race, they care about culture. Although I do see in some countries like the UK that migration has been pushed so far that they are now in a pro herritage position where they do not wish to become a minority in their own country. That one is the closest to it.
Asker2 moI don't think you're completely wrong about this, but the thing is that racism against non-whites has historically been so prevalent that it's hard to shake off that legacy. The current prejudice from the right wing against anyone who isn't white is not helping matters one bit.
Asker2 moI don't think it's an accident that the only people that seem to be deported by the right wing are those who don't have white skin. I don't think it's an accident that our racist President Donald Trump is trying to get rid of the birthright clause of the Constitution, specifically because he does not want anyone who is not white becoming a citizen. That suggests that there is quite a bit of racism in the right wing, wouldn't you agree?
Asker2 moYeah, we'll be counting about how many Norwegian or Swedish birthright citizens you get rid of. How about zero?
- 2 mo
I don't subscribe to your worldview that the entire world is entitled to be in the US. So if you enforce the law that people who weren't allowed to be there need to be deported then there just isn't racism in that. Its a matter of sovereignty over your borders. There aren't (m) any norwegians or swedish people doing this so naturally they won't be mass deported, there simply is no mass there so they can fly under the radar for a while. But if they were to catch someone from norway who shouldn't be there I am sure its not going to be a "Oh you are white so its fine now".
Asker2 moYes, the problem here is the people who aren't white are always deemed to not be allowed to be here or shouldn't be here for some reason and people who are white are always allowed to be here. I don't have to tell you what this means. You already know.
Asker2 moIf a Policy is racist, and it's racist. Whether it was intended or not is not the issue. Calling it nationalist doesn't make it any less racist.
Asker2 moOh, I see, "just happens to be a disproportionate amount of them." How amazingly convenient.

@WhiteBoyChill i guess in essence everyone tries to be a good person. but to be a good person, it's not enough to say that you're against discrimination, against racism and against fascism. you need to really understand these concepts and understand when someone is abusing your value system and your "good guy" identity to rile you up against all the very principles you're trying to stand for. and that's what happens to guys like him. they rage at someone quesitoning their value system cause they never thought it through entirely and actually just raging at people who qustion them is easier than really thinking through it and making sure you're actually not a racist fascist bigot. the worst offenders of that are the antifa. like those guys are the closest ideologically to the actually og nazis.
Asker2 mo@WhiteBoyChill the fact that you need to speak with others and advise them about how to deal with me suggests that you have no idea how to do it either.
- 1 mo
he may have no idea either but what he said was not wrong tho.
Asker1 moThe behavior of that particular segment of our society along with our own statements. If you can't figure this out then I suggest you read BBC or some other reputable news outlet.
- 1 mo
what behavior are you talking about specifically and what segment of society are you talking about and which statements exactly? you don't get to veil what you're saying in a blanket of confusionand then tell me i need to go somewere else to find out what you were even saying. be precise. stand for what you're saying. don't shift accountability for your words away from you.

2 moThe country was founded by white supremacists
15 Reply
Asker2 moWhat is the support for that, and even if it is true, why does it matter now?
- 2 mo
Most of the founding fathers were slave owners, and there is a direct throughline with their christian background and the influence of white supremacy in those same churches as a large majority of protestant churches in the US are still heavily segregated, and 1/3 of all americans are some kind of christian.
Asker2 moI'm not sure that being Christian is equivalent to being a racist, and in fact, I think the two things are really incompatible if we think about it. Perhaps that's more contemporary than I think it is?
- 2 mo
The original British colonies, aside from being filled with opportunistic capitalists pursuing the industries of lumber and tobacco, were also filled with puritans, AKA religious extremists who were more or less exiled from Britain. This was the same religious group that outlawed Christmas. Their extremism combined with the mercantile desire for efficiency in labor, making black people not human enough to be considered a legal person, but human enough to be used for labor and jobs without pay.
Asker2 moThank you. I think that's a very persuasive argument for the lineage to the current situation, where half the country is a bunch of racists.
